Since when did ketchup become a vegetable anyway? .....
IIRC, during the Reagan administration an attempt was made to reclassify ketchup so it could be counted as a vegetable on the menu for the school lunch program. Would have made it a lot easier for schools to say they were providing adequate vegetables for kids' lunches.

(Un)fortunately, ketchup is so stuffed with tomatoes that it counts as one of your five vegetables in the "five-a-day" mantra on healthy living.
