I agree, I think there was something special about Arthur, and Merlin saw that potential. But also there is the aspect that Arthur was the child of Uther, and thus the rightful heir.

Well, according to the legend Merlin saw to it that Uther could seduce Igraine, the wife of one of his men. And even if Arthur was a bastard, he was still a son of the rightful King and therefore his heir.

Hmmmm; yes the BBC show was very good as is a tape called "Arthur's Britain" I think. At any rate, Merlin spelled anyway was a real person and Arthur too.
On a board of those who believe in Hobbits, why should this be so improbable?

lol!!! I liked King Arthur stories when I was younger, but I only seem to have the innocent ones where Uther and Ygraine were already married. I've read the 1st Lawhead book but not the others.
Another cool take on Arthur is in a trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay, The Summer Tree... darn I cant remember the others. Anyway they have some interesting plots set in a world called Fionavar. Has anyone else read them?
Somewhere I heard that there is a story about Arthur having a relationship with his half sister, Morgan de la Fay. Can anyone confirm where I could find a copy of this?

I believe the book "Mysts of Avalon" covers the relationship albeit sexual encounter on a Druidic holiday. It is mentioned in several other books but this one is most recent. See the movie if you can rent it, it's quite good.

That's how Mordred was conceived, if I remember.

Hey, did anyone see the miniseries on TV with Helena Bonham-Carter a few years ago called "Merlin"? I thought it was pretty good.

I've seen it too and it was alright. But since I hold Boorman's Excalibur as the absolute best ever King Arthur story brought to the screen I may be a bit blind towards other tv dramatisations and films on the subject.

I haven't seen Excalibur yet, but the mini-serie of Merlin was great. I enjoyed it immensly.
