Dunno what to say about it that would be snide. 85% turnout is pretty impressive so at least the French are taking an interest in who governs them. Sarkozy is ostensibly more pro-US than Chirac, though we'll see how long that lasts. However, being friends with the US (with Bush at the helm anyway) usually means you have to do what they tell you, and I don't see that going down too well with the French people.
It's interesting, though, that he's played to the baser patriotic instincts of the electorate, which makes him similar to a Bush-type US president. He has at least kicked the overtly racist Front National into the long grass for now. IR, for some reason I can't imagine Bush and Brown at the hoedown together.
