I sincerely suspect you have no idea of how many failures they each have had nor how many lives have been lost. It's ok, you're not supposed to know. It's just that I do. Perhaps by this date the web may have more information than I but on this you can, to quote The Terminator, "trust me".

[EDIT]

Never mind. I think we were just made to disagree with eachother, Spock . No point in turning this into another argument thread.

Discovery 'ready to go' for Tuesday launch:
Quote:
Eleven days after mission controllers scrubbed a launch of the shuttle Discovery, NASA test director Jeff Spaulding said there are "no significant issues" that technicians know about that would stand in the way of the liftoff, set for 10:39 a.m. ET.

I did the toy rocket thing for a while when I was younger. It was pretty when the chute opened and it gracefully and gently floated back to earth, but it was also spectacular when the chute didn't open and gravity took effect.

....yep, I always wanted one of those. Now as an adult all I can think of it the shuttle exploding in mid-air as it returned.....

One of my friends and I are going to shoot off model rockets again in a week or so. We just need to find a good field. My brother has tons of them that he doesn't use anymore.

So now it appears they've grounded the shuttle fleet once more.

To be honest, they should have started moving away from the shuttle a decade ago. Why they keep dawdling on it and putting off research and development for better spacecraft is beyond me, considering they've had plans sitting around for rocketless "taxis" since the late eighties.

And the same problem, actually - the shuttle was cut by pieces flying off the rocket during the launch sequence. The sooner NASA moves ahead with their technology for a change, the better.

Aye, but they need funding for that. And someone keeps cutting their budget.

Minutes ago, Discovery lifted off from Cape Canaveral for a mission to the International Space Station. The launch is especially interesting since it puts the first Scandinavian into space - Swedish/Norwegian Christer Fuglesang. He's unique in that he's got both cosmonaut and astronaut training. Poor guy had been waiting for over ten years for this and he's been known in Sweden as the astronaut who's never been to space . Well, now he's in orbit.

There's been a huge media hype here prior to the launch.

CNN: Discovery lights up night sky
