well.... in answer to the original topic.... i feel that i am much more composed online than in person. (i also talk on AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ, so this counts for both of those.) i think it's just that my thoughts move pretty fast, and having to articulate them outloud is more difficult than online. i'm probably not proving my point very well, though, because that last sentence didn't seem to make much sense.... but.... since i'm a psyc. major, i'll say this much:
Our brains are divided into left and right hemispheres. Left=logical, mathematical, etc. and also is responsible for speach Right=creative, intuitive and also is responsible for verbal abilities Now I see myself as a very right-brained person. I am not good at math, although I guess I'm fairly analytical. I'm good at writing essays, grammar, spelling and verbal things that are generally associated with the right brain. However, I think since speach is on the left side, I find it harder to articulate in person. In addition, speech is just more spontaneous and you have less time to formulate your thoughts into something cohesive. At least that's my theory.......

In person I am shockingly shy (not all that long ago I used to have to get psycked before ordering my burger). But I have no problem with shyness online.
It is (I think) also harder for me to offend people online, as I am not very good at hiding my emotions. I often hurt people with an expression I wasn't even aware I had on. Sigh... I don't mean to offend.

I know how that is...
I have the burger problem too...=) I make my mom order for me. Lol.
Also, I think I have an easier time talking to people online because they can't hear my voice. I have a very sarastic voice, even when I'm not doing it on purpose. Gets me in lots and lots of trouble.....(hmm, there's no 'sheepish smilie') But on MB and AIM and such, I can say what I want and what I mean without worrying how people are going to hear it. Plus, I can add a smilie to clarify....=) |

Ya I'm also a bit shy off line.
Yes sis, I am shy, I just try to cover it up with a show of bravado and with my silliness. I mean I'm not like REALLY shy, but I am a bit shy. (not like mom thinks "And this is my son, who is not shy at all") |

few people i know are like they are in real life online. If anyone lives near a whitecastle, don't take it for granted. They're so good.

I always sound more formal-ish when I'm online. I talk in complete sentences and whatnot online. Offline? Er . . . "Would somebody hand me that there mike? Yeah, microphone . . . Never mind what I need it for, idiot!" I sound a lot different
Note: I love dredging up old threads from the bottom of the General Messages forum . . . hee hee . . . this was, formerly, on page 10.

It's a lot easier to talk online. I don't speak very loudly or enunciate well when I'm just talking to people. If I'm reading out loud I'm fine, but when I'm just chatting people often can't understand me. Also if I'm saying something important, my emotion gets into my voice and makes me incoherent unless I put what I'm trying to say in writing.

There are no whitecastles in california. As far as i know, there never will be whitecastles west of the mississippi () However, you can buy whitecastles frozen from some supermarkets here in cali, but they dont taste half as good as they do fresh. (you see, i have relatives in illinois, Ohio, kentuky, etc.. so instead of a vacation to hawaii or florida or whatever when i was younger, id go across the midwest there and visit relatives. So, for two weeks every summer, i'd eat whitecastles every day Now i only really get whitecastles when i go back for a funeral (sad as it sounds) or visit relatives, but i dont do that much anymore as many have died However, send me a personal message (or email) if you live near a whitecastle and would like to send me some fresh whitecastles via a refrigerated box and ups-overnight shipping. Your donations will be appreciated.
On another note, i think everyone seems a lot ruder and such on the internet for one primary reason. Vocal tone. On the internet, you can't be sarcastic, and when people read what you write, they dont always imagine it the way you imagine saying it. Sarcasm becomes rude (especially since its primarily an american form of humor, and some foreigners just dont get it ), and many other "jokes" aren't taken that way. I guess its just because we dont really have a lot of practice, or care, in writing short little blurbs of information and such on the internet, and personality turns to obnoxiousness. And who cares if you can't spell, i think we need to have a fonetik speleng dai heer aht entmout. It would be nice.
