Strider Hi !

Greetings fellow Tolkien fans

I am doing a long research paper over The life of J.R.R Tolkien and his writing style(escapism). If anyone knows of a good research site or anyone has any helpful hints let me know

Thanks Jookie

Tom Bombadil

Hi to you too, Jookie.
Escapism? Tolkien's writings are escapism?
Try A.A. Milne for escapism. Ok, I admit, we would all like to escape to Middle Earth at least once a day. If I were writing this long paper (1077 pages?) I would start with a good biography of J.R.R. himself. He had quite hard life early on. If you were in the Somme in 1917 I bet you would want to escape too. Also, there is a classic anti-Tolkien critical essay titled "Oooh those nasty Orcs." I forget the writer, but I found it in a book titiled "A Tolkien Treasury." It basically paints LOTR as a children's story. By the way, writing style refers to the manner in which the words of the story are crafted. Escapism is a category of literature. You could make the case for escapism in John Ronald Ruell's work, then again you could make quite a good case against it. Good luck.

Examine the Silmarrilion

In some editions of the silmarrilion there is an excellent letter by Tolkein outlining the themes of his work. It's a good outline of what ideally he wished to achieve.

We, technically, are already in Middle-Earth because Tolkiens Works are a History of around 6000 years ago, we currently are in the sixth or seventh age I believe.
