Purpose of Blogs

I know blogs have been around for a while and I've gone to them and things. My webhosting company now offers free blog software. I've set it up - you can check it out here - http://www.aboutnewjersey.com/Blog/ I'm wondering what to use it for though. If I should use it at all.

Personally I like messageboards. This is my Messageboard - http://forum.AboutNewJersey.com and I don't really see the need for a Blog - but if anyone has any suggestions - please let me know.

I personally like message boards better because you can interact with people. (Even though you can comment on the blog, you can't really interact.) However, since a blog is like an on-line diary, it encourages a different style of writing, and can be very interesting.

See that's the problem I face. I also view it as an online diary really - which doesn't seem to be very professional. I can seem them for news sites and so forth - but I'm not sure how it really can work for a tourism site which has a messageboard. As you say - users can interact with each other on the messageboard.

the best blogs i've read, and i don't read many for that long, are the witty everyday story types... maybe you could share some of the better memories you have about times in NJ and encourage other people to to... they don't necessarily have to be current, but can just be some good ones out of the past

I have to say that my favorite web journal is written by Neil Gaiman. He often includes political rants and such, and it's interesting to see what's going on in his mind. But, depending on what YOU really want, and the amount of writing you want to do, message boards may be the way to go.
Good luck!!

I think blogs & livejournals are ok, but unfortuantely it has taken many good folk away from messageboards they used to attend. So I have to go to their blog/livejournal to stay in touch with them.

I don't read many blogs, but i have been reading katya's. I love how she writes it, it's just so her, also it helps so that i don't miss her as much, even though when i read it, i forget she is in another country and it makes me want to call her.
