The Aviator will probably win best picture. Not because I Scorcese deserves it (I don't know, I haven't seen the movie), but because he's been "gipped" four times before.

Oscars playing catch-up.

And the big winner was Million Dollar Baby, by Clint Eastwood. Anybody seen it?
And Jamie Foxx got for Ray, not very surprising.

I am very glad Spiderman 2 won Best Visual Effects. Also Cate Blanchett winning Best Supporting Actress. Haven't seen the movie, but I bet she was great.

Thank you GOD The Aviator didn't win Best Picture. I haven't even seen the movie and I hate it. Why does it seem to me that DiCaprio can only play variations of Jack Dawson?

Go Hillarry Swank, and CATE- I am so glad she won! Morgan Freeman FINALLY got one; yay!

Now I must go out and see Million Dollar Baby. Looks good from the clips.

Well, I have to say that the show was good. Chris Rock was hilarious. I didn't like Bionce (spl?) singing every song (well, she didn't sing the really lame version of 'Accidentally in Love', at least)- ugh!

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THAT WILDLY HILARIOUS SPARTACUS PEPSI COMMERCIAL???!!!!

I cant stand Chris Rock! Ach!

Well, I can't say Leo si one of my favs, but I think he's quite a good actor (even though he can only play var. of Jack Dawson-which, I always thought, was a very lame name.) And I wouldnt have been surprised if he had won.

Cate Blanchett really deserved her Oscar. She was awesome in The Aviator. I was surprised the movie didn't win Best Picture because even if the movie wasn't that great, the sceneries were.

Really? How come? I'm not normally for comedians like him, either, but his Oscar show was extremely funny. Even when he was picking on the President: "Imagine you work at The Gap..." Hilarious!

I will admit that he did a good job acting the part of the retarded younger brother in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. The only other movie I can think of that he plays somebody different from the Dawson guy (btw, a name's a name- although I must admit that Hollywood's preoccupation with the name 'Jack' is getting annoying) was in Man in the Iron Mask, which is entertaining mostly because of the other stars, not Leo.

Where have you been? Return of the King, anyone?

And as for the Disney-Pixar deal...I'd say that both Toy Story and Finding Nemo were both better than Monsters Inc., as good as it was. But I haven't seen the Incredibles yet...

Well, most of the films I enjoyed most in 2004 were utterly neglected at the Oscars. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the biggest example of this, but there's also A Very Long Engagement and The Phantom of the Opera - not to mention films that just don't win awards, like the Spider-Man and Harry Potter sequels (which, in both cases, were the best of their respective franchises).

For my part, I really enjoyed both The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby, but in retrospect, I would have preferred it if the former won. With Catch Me If You Can and The Aviator, Leonardo DiCaprio has really earned my respect, and I think he's a fine actor indeed. As easy as it would have been for him to coast on looks and fame alone, he's chosen to do challenging projects with directors who are willing to push him (even if Gangs of New York sucked), and I think that's great.

And Scorsese got screwed.

Sean Penn won the Oscar for best actor in Mystic River last year.

For what reason I do not know.... Maybe the other supporting actors were REALLY bad.

WHOA!!!! I must put my foot down and say for the record that Monsters Inc. is probably the best of all the computer-animated movies out there (even RotK)- or at least level with the Toy Stories. If for no other reason because it's so original. I mean, who comes up with the idea that closet doors are used by actual monsters to enter children's bedrooms at night to scare them in order to make power?? Anyway, even if you don't agree, it's a million times better than Finding Nemo.
