Alcohol Prohibition
So what are your views on this?
It has been attempted, and failed on various occasions in the past. One example is 1920/30's America. The problems seems to be that even if something of this nature is taken away, there will always be a black market. Hence the fact why no government will ban the sale of cigerettes in the near future. Do you think anything like this could be accomplished?

The banning of good beer is evil....
![]() Check my signature for what Ben says on the issue... ![]() There were "Dry cities" in Oregon where I grew up, but they were small farming communites. There was one that had a college within its bounds but it was a christian college, thus no biggy.

I think the complete banning would be a VERY bad idea. I would cause alot more trouble than its worth. The protesting you'd get from the public would cause alot of violence and as you say it would just push it underground and onto the black market. It would just get smuggled in and drug dealers and criminals would just get rich off it, just like all illegal drugs. I believe they should make more drugs legal such as cannabis and maybe harder ones. I think if anything cannabis should be legal and alcohol illegal anyway, imagine if on a saturday night instead of everyone going out to get wrecked in town and cause fights etc at the end of the night, everyone just got stoned with their friends in their living room, there would be alot less crime. Not saying that i want that to happen, because I would never want alcohol to be illegal, but i'm saying its kinda stupid the laws on cannabis. At least it would allow them to limit the quantity and would stop drug related crime. Since alot of crime and theft is for addicts to get money for herion etc. It would also stop drug gang related murders etc. Plus the fact that stuff is illegal often encourages people to try it, as Renton says in Trainspotting "we would have injected vitimin C if only they made it illegal.

For a good insight and parody of 30's prohibition in America, see the movie City Heat with Clint Eastwood and Burt Renyolds.

![]() (in case she changes her sig, it's "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. --Ben Franklin") I think it's impractical. I have no problem with people drinking alcohol (just had a glass of wine meself tonight). I only have a problem with people getting drunk, as my brother-in-law does (his wife and son find him passed out on the sofa periodically, and he has to go to the hospital to detox, and he's diabetic, and it's practically suicide for a diabetic to drink like that ![]() ![]()
