There are two ways of getting stem cells - but embryonic is the purest stem cell. Stem cells are the base cells that all other cells originate from - it's before the turn into the heart muscle, skin sells, liver cells, nerve cells, etc - so they can be forced to grow into anything.

I think Nurvi's right, BoP - did you read that link? I don't think they're at all hard to come by, either. And there have been positive advances with adult stem cell - and only bad ones (cells going nuts) with embryonic ones.

In that case ...

Note to self: 10 step plan. (1)Become a doctor. (2)Learn to manipulate stem cells. (3)Grow one hundred million dollars. (4)Repeat step 3 for a very long time. (5)Buy the Earth. (6)Sell the Earth to Martians for profit. (7)Deliver mass-public apology for the immanent doom of said Earth. (8)Destroy said Martians, and take back the Earth, winning love and admiration. (9)Put life accomplishments to paper, and sell script to Hollywood. (10)Star in my own movie.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say, thanks JD. I just couldn't find the right wording. I remember reading a research paper about it a year or so ago, and it mentioned that embryonic cells were easier to work with or something.

No problem. The discussion here over embryonic and adult stem cells is a big thing. It's basically always in the news. I personally see nothing wrong with embryonic stem cell research. The cell feels nothing, knows nothing, hears nothing, sees nothing. That is my dividing line on what is human and what isn't - once a fetus can feel something - then I have a problem with it.

And the three billion will be a good investment for the state if it attracts the kind of research talent and investment capital successful studies will bring. A good friend has a C3 injury and has been hoping for the cure for 15 years now.
