Guy Gavriel Kay

I tried to read "The Summer Tree" back in high school, finished it, remember liking it , but being very sad at the end cuz it is emotionally quite powerful. And then I finished high school and no longer had access to their library, so I never finished the series.
I just bought the whole "Fionavar Tapestry" series and I read the whole thing and was completely blown away. So I got myself a copy of "Song for Arbonne" and can't wait to read the rest of his stuff, which I have heard is quite good.
What are everyone else's impressions of his stuff?

The Fionavar Tapestry is great! Song for Arbonne is good, but more romance than fantasy. Be warned, I cried through both!

He killed Kevin off! And at the end where Arthur, Jennifer and Lance can all go... sniff

Kay stuff is excellent. Tigana is top notch as is The Lions of Al-Rassan. Sailing to Sarentium and its sequel are pretty good, but the first two (and a Song for Arbonne-they're all in same vein) are wonderful books and they each stand alone, no searching for sequels.

Someone recomended his books to me, but my sister got there first. Right now, she is almost done The Darkest Road and i'm about half way thorugh the Summer Tree. unfortunately, we the the trilogy all put together into one book so i can't finish The Summer Tree until she's finished The Darkest Road. So far, I love them!!! I can't wait to read more of his books.

Ok. I've now managed to burn right through all his novels except for the Sarantine Mosaic. It might be a good idea to hold off of that until after my midterms. I am now thouroughly convinced that this man is a genius. Why did no one tell me about him earlier? I could never hope to write so beautifully even if I tried for a thousand years.

I just finished the Fionavar tapestry, and I have to admit that I cried at the end. I haven't read any of his other books but i really really want to. I bought the Fionavar tapestry as soon as I was done the summer tree and I am sure I am going to read it over and over again.

I've read several of his books. By far the best (and the first I read which may explain it) was The Lions of Al-Rassan which was just stunning. A song for Arbonne and Sailing to Sarantium are good, too.

I didn't appreciate the Fianovar (spelling?) Tapestry as much.

If you've read the Summer tree, then tackle The Wandering Fire, and Darkest Road, the whole trilogy (Fionavar Tapestry) is SOOO rewarding...

Did you know Kay helped Christopher Tolkien with the Silmarillion?

After the first Sarantium novel, there was a need for a second. They were one story. It's like stopping with "Empire strikes back", in the Star Wars saga (though perhaps not quite so big a cliff-hanger).
