Monty Python LotR?
I hope this is the right thread for this, i was just reading the thread about actors from any time period and I thought… which of the Pythons would you get to play each role (bearing in mind that most of them would have to double up and Carol Cleveland would probably end up being stuck with all the female roles)
Eric Idle– Shelob, Sam Graham Chapman– Legolas. It's the blonde hair! And Elrond too. John Cleese– Gandalf (he was Tim in the Holy Grail wasn't he?), voice of Sauron Michael Palin– Frodo, and probably several other hobbits Terry Gilliam– He doesn't usually play anyone does he? He just does the animation and plays bit parts… I'm not even sure what he looks like… Terry Jones– Sam Which leaves a few others I haven't thought of– Aragorn, Denethor, saruman, Boromir…

Not precisely on the topic, but:
Well, you could have that nice Mr. Hilter, who stood for some office [mayor?], as Denethor. And if you think the Rohirrim surprised the Lord of the Nazgul on the Pelennor Fields, you could have the Inquisition hide behind Gandalf and Shadowfax and then spring out. He certainly wouldn't expect that! Of course, they probably wouldn't have been too successful in getting information out of Gollum in Mirkwood (even using the Comfy Chair). Oh, and to really puzzle Saruman's lads as they attack Helm's Deep, have people from the Office of Silly Walks on the parapets. -------------------------------------------------- Michael Palin (Lumberjack Song) ---Aragorn MP's girlfriend in the Lumberjack Song)--- Arwen (Rangers and Elves as chorus)

I agree that John Cleese must be Gandalf. As wonderful as the other Pythons are, there is no one else that could possibly be right for the part.
I think Eric Idle should be Pippin or Merry -- or maybe both. (a bi-polar Hobbit. I think he could pull it off...)

Hmm, I like John Cleese as Aragorn, tho - but as was said, they could do multiple parts. And I like Eric Idle as bipolar Pippin/Merry! And that guy that sings the lumberjack song looks like how I envision Tom Bombadil

"I talk to trees, wear yellow boots, I live with Goldberry!
On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones with tea!" Eric Idle should be treebeard as well as the bipolar pippin/merry John Cleese HAS to be Gandalf. And at some point you'd have to see terry jones in drag...maybe goldberry or galadriel.

Saruman would look good as a kind of Knight who Says 'Ni'. And the white bunny rabbit would have to play one of the monsters, either Shelob or the watcher in the Water or the Balrog… and I'm sure you could somehow incorporate the dead Parrot speech (this is an EX-parrot!)…

Lol!
![]() As well as Tim in Holy Grail, John Cleese was also one of the peasant guys calling for the witch to be burned, the "bring out your dead" guy, and of course, Lancelot. I think I may have left someone out of that one. He played a lot of characters. I think Carol Cleveland should be cast as Eowyn. She played a woman whenever the Pythons needed a woman who was actually not a man dressed as a woman. Among her distinguished roles in the skits, she was the wife from the sex scene in "The Meaning of Life", and the witch, Zut, and Zut's identical twin sister Dingo in "The Search for the Holy Grail". Nurv's picks: John Cleese - Gandalf (Tim) Eric Idle - Pippin (Robin) Michael Palin - Sam (Galahad) Carol Cleveland - Eowyn (actual women characters) Graham Chapman - Aragorn (Arthur) Terry Gilliam - Frodo (I'm pretty sure he was Bedevere) "Worship the Python, it is very Monty." -- Miss Cam

![]() actualy, carol cleveland wasn't the wife in sex scene meaning of life, it was the woman who is in Rocky Horror Picture Show (film version) don't know if you have that in america...?
and faramir would have to have an urge to sing, but of course denethor would go 'no no, none of that!' 'i built minas tirith on a swamp, people said i was stupid, and i was it sank into the swamp, so i built another that fell over and sank into the swamp, and then i built minas anor, which burnt down, fell over and sank into the swamp, but he fourth minas tirith, that's what you'll get my lad, everything you see before you...' 'what, the curtains?' |

When Eowyn is slaying the Witch-king, wouldn't it just be fantastic if he got up and started bleeding buckets of blood and then… W-K: Tis but a flesh wound! Eowyn: [chops his legs off] [random in-between bits… I can't remember the exact dialogue] W-K: Come back! I'll bite your legs off!
