The Rise, Fall and Death of Entmoot

I get the feeling that Entmoot is locked in an irreversible decline. With the Tolkien forums emptier than a hermit's address book and the General Messages (traditionally the most bustling) significantly quieter than they used to be, I think that the 'Moot has seen its glory days. What do you think?

Perhaps we should reflect in this thread upon the things which made Entmoot great (its rise), where we began to decline (its fall) and predict perhaps how soon its eventual ruin will be (its death).

It is the summer, it always seems slower now since people are on vacation

This has been done several times before. When all else fails...let's talk about ourselves!

This topic has been coming up for years. The original members felt that Entmoot saw its golden days in 2000-2001: long before you even registered . In fact, Darth Tater, who used to be Entmoot's co-owner, opined that the board took a significant turn for the worse after the first LotR movie came out in December 2001.

I'd say that any "decline" occurs on a personal, individual level. When a new user comes here, he typically hangs out in the LotR section for awhile, exhausts most discussion there, and then moves on to General Messages to continue being in the community. It's rare that users stay more than 2-3 years.

The board was able to thrive before the movies, and I don't see why it can't survive after the movies. Tolkien discussion has been going on for a half-century, after all. I suppose some day I'll stop paying the bills (and turn it over to someone else?), but I don't expect that to be soon.
