Actually, it was weird, at the beginning of TTT, when Aragorn and Legolas and Gimli are looking for Merry and Pippin, I literally tried to read faster because somewhere in the back of my head I thought it would help them go faster in the book. That was a little weird...
I read it several times too. This is my twenty-first time. A bit weird perhaps is the concept of actually reading faster to make characters go faster.

Has finished off my latest reading of LOTR. Perhaps I'll give the appendixes a closer scrutiny.

I'm reading Fellowship of the Rings for the first time at the moment. I'm currently reading the chapter ''A Journey in the Dark''. I'm almost done with that chapter though.

I've never read any Tolkien book before. I had difficulty to get into FOTR at the beginning (I started to read it in January) but I begin to really like it now.

Stick with it Caro!

The first read of Lord of the Rings itself it hard, and the first reading of fellowship is a grueling task. Once you get through the whole history of hobbits and the origins of Bilbo in the beginning, it gets damn good damn fast.

So I say to you read on, my good Caro, read on! You won't ever regret it!

Caro, welcome to the moot! Are you going to participate in the chapter by chapter discussion we have going on? Chapter 2 has just been posted. It's a good way to help understand what's going on and you can ask questions, too, or add your impressions as a first time reader.

I don't think that I'll join the chapter by chapter discussion for now... I started to read Fellowship of the Ring in the beginning of January so I don't remember the first chapters really well... Thank you for the offer though.
