What's your auto insurance price?

I have been out of the States for quite awhile and I have been trying to get some info on some auto insurance prices but they tend to require info that I do not have.

I know age etc plays a difference but I am really just trying to get some gauge on possible prices.

If you could post just the year make and model and your insurance that would be really helpful. You can PM me if you don't wish everyone to know your premium.

Thanks.

I'm 41 and my wife is 32. We have one vehicle - a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. We live in the city of Chicago, in a reasonably nice neighborhood (I believe that in the US auto insurance is partly determined by zip code). Neither of us has ever had a claim in our lives... and I only pick up a very rare speeding ticket (grand total of 3 - plus once for turning right as a light changed to red at a 'no-turn-on-red' intersection).

Six months of auto insurance: slightly over $700.

Not that it's relevant, but I thought I'd just add my bit to this thread.

23yo, 2003 Toyota RunX 140RT, no accidents/claims, R820pm = $127pm. I've been told I'm paying double what others are.

Progressive Auto Insurance

1998 Toyota Camry...$274 per 6 months
1997 Ford F150 truck...$187 per 6 months
We are both 48, and haven't had any accidents or claims in 20 years. So we pay ($461. x 2 ) $922.00 a year for other people's mistakes.
Shop around though, there is quite a bit of difference in price.

Well of course insurance prices all depend on where you are moving back to. NJ has the highest in the nation, followed closely by NY and Connecticut.

AE, once you're over 25, age doesn't make a difference, so the biggest factors are where you will live and how much coverage you'll need. Is your destination determined? And if so, is it a big urban area? In either case, one good approach could be to get a vehicle that's at least 8 years old and just get liability, or whatever goes for minimum coverage in your state.

To give you an idea, I was from a small town in an area where there are no big towns and my insurance was quite low, even when my dad added me to the family policy. I went to college in Champaign, IL - not a big urban center either - still paid a very small amount.

I was already over 25 when I finished with school, and when I moved to Chicago, my insurance went up about 2.5 times - just for the location change. Then, a year and a half later I bought a new car and went to 'full coverage' - I was shocked again because my rates went up another 2.5 times!

So, a few different factors. If you can swing it with public, and an occasional borrowed car for a time, that'll help you get on your feet. Otherwise, going for a cheaper option can get you through for a time.
