Er, what? Elves did grow beards, but only when they reached their third Cycle of Life (but no one knows exactly what that is). But evidently, very old Elves could and did grow beards (CÃ*rdan had one, cf. Book VI, Grey Havens). 'Old' i.e., ones that had been living in Middle-earth for a very long time (entering into a third Life Cycle). Thus the first Elves, in the beginning, would not have had (did not have) beards.

Maybe you should edit that Arwen, and make it a little more legible...

I never knew that it said anywhere that Cirdan had a beard, but I have always seen him with one in artworks, but I always thought that was just a depiction by the artist, and not a fact of the story. Hmmmm, ya learn something new everyday.

Third cycle of life? What book does JRRT mention that in? I haven't ever heard that mentioned in anything about his works before.

You can ask Tar-Elenion about the Cycles. It's been published in Vinyar Tengwar I guess. CÃ*rdan is described with a beard in the Grey Havens chapter, a long silver one I believe.
