'Fantasy' Music
I'm searching for some good, what I like to call, 'fantasy' music.. I enjoy music by Hans Zimmer, those written for "The Last Samurai" and "The Gladiator" and of course Howard Shore's scores for the saga, "Lord of the Rings"..
 Anyone here got any recommendations for me? Any songs (written by Zimmer, Shore or by whoever) I should check out? Any titles? Anything?  Everyone should check out Hans Zimmer's; 'A hard Teacher'.. It’s beautiful! A peace of art.. Got any songs that go under that song's genre? well, the board is free for all, I guess.. |

If you like soundtrack type music, listen to anything by James Horner. "The Perfect Storm" is awesome.
If you're looking for something more New Age, check out David Arkenstone (I am not making up this name!). He has done some beautiful stuff: "In the Wake of the Wind" "Citizen of Time". And, of course, there's anything by Enya.

It sounds like you want classical, but with a certian mood to it.
You should try looking for things by composer Yngwie Malmsteen. Or just talk to HectorBerlioz.

the soundtrack to Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves has some pretty good mood pieces on it
there's some classical stuff in the fantasy vein too... mozart, vivaldi and wagner have that grand sound in a lot of their pieces... chopin also, if you enjoy solo piano music... lots of passion and dynamics

Dead Can Dance
Enya's music is a bit too bland. much of Loreena Mckennit's music is beautiful, and sad some of it too. her song 'the highwayman' if you listen to the lyrics is lovely. David Lanz is new ageish but it's lovely. his 'the crane' is lovely, it's my favorite song of his to lay on piano

You should definitely go for for Wagner - you can't get much more fantasy-ish than that!

yeah how awesome is the last samurai soundtrack, good that someone else hear appreciates good soundtracks
 Braveheart is a favourite, and Last of the Mohicans... as i just watched Edward Scissorhands again i have to say that, it is incredible music at the end it nearly makes me cry (for you fools who think Johnny Depp was at his best in PotC watch Edward Scissorhands again), i havent got round to Big Fish but i will see it this week (no matter how many bad reviews i read  ) it is supposed to be an awesome score, supposedly much like ES YAY

It's not a soundtrack but Clannad are good.
Also the Queen of the Dammed soundtrack..... both of them, I just love the violin music they use on that! The 'Gladiator' soundtrack is good and so's the 'Braveheart' one (I love it! )But as Bombadillo said, talk to Hector.... he's the expert on classical music!

If you really want to lose your entire street credbility in one fell swoop, check out Rick Wakeman's discography, especially the Myths and Legends of King Arthur.
But for prog rock at its zenith/nadir (delete as appropriate) you can't beat the awesome/dire (ditto) Pentateuch of the Cosmogeny peace |
