RPG Forum?

Can anyone tell me what the RPG forum is? My idea is very vague. I know what RPG stands for, and I know that the forum is where several people write a single story but I'm still not 100% sure what you actually do there.

There are a couple of different kinds of RPG forums. Yes, the main point of them is that people write a story, taking turns writing paragraphs back and forth in turn, and writing only the part of one or a few characters in it. Basically they just control their characters, and the other people control theirs.

There are a couple of different types of RPG forums as well. One would be more of a literature type one, where you just write the paragraphs back and forth as usual. Like on my forum:

The characters just write about anything they want basically, pertaining to Middle Earth, and there aren't anything like levels and stuff involved.
For a good example of a two person RP, look at this one:

Then there are also more game based ones, where people have to compete in challanges and do certain things to RP in certain places. You still write stories and stuff, but there are special things you have to do in them. I'm not so fluent with these ones, but here is a friends game based RPG forum:
