I hate fried fish. I like my fish broiled - although shark and swordfish is good on the grill.

But then we would never eat anything off a newspaper here.
That's not true - I've been to lobster shanties in Maine and they just put newspaper on the wooden table, put your lobster on the newspaper. You just eat it off of there and pile the shells in the center. They then come and fold up the newspaper and carry it all away.

Now whats all this talk of biscuits for new years? everyone knows the real tradition is ham hocks and black eyed peas. Although this year I cooked a whole pork shoulder with baked beans instead. i got back home too late to soak the black eyed peas.
In indiana the big thing was Corned Beef and Cabbage, but we never had that out there. We had barbequed ribs, and finger snacks (egg rolls, pizza rolls, chicken nuggets, etc) and we used to have fondue.

Well theres a big difference between using newspaper to catch your trash when yer eating shell fish and getting served on like YESTERDAYS newspaper as if it was a plate and seeing the oils on the freshly fried fish pick up the ink from the news paper so that you can actually read backwards words on your fish! course a little ink never hurt anyone I suppose.

The lobster isn't served on a plate but the newspaper.

I can see where that would be gross. The shells of the lobster aren't eaten - so it doesn't matter that the lobster is served on the newspaper.

Well actually the people in Indiana - none of them were Irish. My ancestors were Irish and we did have Corned Beef and Cabbage for St Patricks Day. I make it every year.

Just thought I'd bring this thread up because on Wednesday my family will be celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year. I love this celebration much more than normal New Year because we get red envelopes with money inside, delicious food, time with family, and an opportunity to throw lots of paper in a bonfire! (The tradition is that by burning paper models of things such as cars, money etc, your ancestors receive the real thing in the afterlife). It is the best fun.
