Why make Malfroy a prefect?

Why not make Malfoy a prefect? It's probably based on grades or something (although it doesn't explain Ron). Besides, as we can tell later in the book, Draco likes to have authority, when he is on Umbridge's security team. So Dumbledore probably picked up on it.

Why make Malfoy a prefect! Because it's the most obvious thing to do! Just to make Harry's life even more miserable. A real funny thing would have been to make Neville a prefect, or Grabbe or Goyle.

You guys know what? It's been my opinion that Dumbledore, as Head Master, probably doesn't spend enough time with the students to make a good decision about who'd be prefect, in general. This isn't to say Malfoy is a mistake; just hear me out .

Dumbledore is barely ever among the students. So, what would be the most logical thing for him to do?

I think that the Heads of each house submit to the Headmaster the names of the individuals they think should be prefect. It is logical that Dumbledore would have to confirm or deny the people they request. Snape, as head of the Slytherine house, very logically would choose Malfoy. Dumbledore would have no strong reason to deny Snape this, except for what his father is. Dumbledore doesn't judge people that way, though, and he trusts Snape.

if malfoy was voted in for best prefect for slytherin, and dumbledore agreed to it, dumbledore probibly knew that hermione and ron (with the help of harry) could keep him in line.

well with malfoy as a prefect there is more suspense in the story and also i is more fun to read about how everything possible that is bad Does happen it is more realistic.

but still - Elvellyn and Valaroma said it before - Malfoy is the ideal slytherin. it's also just one of those things that fits into the story. and even if Dumbledore knew Malfoy would 'abuse his position,' he had to pick somebody from slytherin, it's probably just as likely that anyone else would act just like Malfoy.

I was thinking this but Lief already beat me to it: that the Heads of Houses pick them. Malfoy is Snape's favourite. Too bad he turned out to be such a tool. I had hopes for that little turd.
