When Gandalf leaves Edoras to go round up Eomer and the boys, he laments how after spending 300 lives of men on Middle Earth, he's now so pressed for time. Should've been THIRTY lives of men... since it was about 2,000 years! Unless men are living to just under 7 years or so!

Of course, Gandalf WAS under pressure at the time... and his wizardry revolved around fireworks and such... not solving math problems!

No problem here either way. I like using the old threads, but like you said, the others haven't had posts in over six months, so this one is fine to replace the old one. (I just mentioned the abyss because of the discussion in that other thread
