Notes From A Small Island
Bill Bryson, one of my favourite travel authors got picked for the best depiction of England!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...ts/2824715.stm If you want an impartial view of England, read his book, it's hilarious! His other works aren't too shabby either ![]() |

I've put this on my list of books to read, thanks!
Love Bill Bryson. First came across his essays in Granta (I used to subscribe) years ago and have been a fan ever since. A Walk in the Woods had me laughing so hard I was in actual, physical pain. ![]()

Hell, I never even saw this thread! Maybe I did but didn't click what was up........Anyway, I have recently started reading this book (along with The Third Twin by Ken Follet) and so far I dare not read more than about 10 pages per night 'cos I'm too scared I might p*ss myself laughing....

Today I discovered that I already have one of Bill Bryson's books on my shelves. Mother Tongue: English and How it Got That Way. Isn't that wierd when you've suddenly already got a book on your shelf that you hadn't realized was what it was?
