Mixed marriage or are you just a part of the religion of the day club?

Lent is just the 40 days of fast leading up to easter. This is done because Christ fasted in the desert for 40 days. In Medieval times marriages weren't performed during Lent. The superspirituals fasted completely, but the I think the lay people merely abstainted from sex and eating meat-- both carnal activities, which incidently, is why we have CARNAvals on the tuesday before Lent begins.

That's all I remember...did I miss anything?

I am not religous, but one of my friends tried to give up liquid soap a couple of years ago- it was quite funny.

Why are so many people going on diets? You are making me feel fat even though I can't see what you look like! I am sure you are all really skinny!

btw... aside from the 40 days of fasting (which people seem to have mistaken for an opportunity to diet), here are a couple more interesting 40s to think about:
-in the story of the flood, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights.
-the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years.

Anyway, I'm just kind of thinking out loud. Recurring numbers are interesting...

I've never heard of Lent, so I've never tried it. I am, however, trying to give up chewing my necklaces. I lost half a tooth a week ago because I chew on them so much. So far, it's not working.
