"Bilbo's Last Song", by JRRT
Hey fellow Tolkien-lovers, I came across a little book at Christmas called Bilbo's Last Song, by JRRT, and wondered if anyone else has come across it? It's just a little thing, illustrated by the Pauline Baynes, who Tolkien liked so much, and it's really lovely!

Hey I got it along time ago in a thriftshop. It's a first edition. It's worth about $20.00.

I had heard of it many years ago and had it on my book wish list for a long time. Is it out of print? No one was able to find it. And what is it exactly? Is it a poem that he wrote by Bilbo that was illustrated? Or is it one from The Hobbit or LotR that she illustrated and was put into picture book form? I wish I'd been able to find it then, because I'm sure it's more expensive now. Where did you find it (all of you who have it or have seen it), and about how much was it?

It's been re-released, so it's widely available through all major bookshops. It's about NZ$20 I think. It's small, with a blue cover, and is illustrated by Tolkien's favourite illustrator. It's not very long (A poem.)

Sounds neat. I came across it in a book store once. Is the book actually a song?

It's about 15 pages or so, and each page has a 4-line (what is the word? couplet?) thingy. I"ll type the first several pages:
Day is ended, dim my eyes, but journey long before me lies. Farewell, friends! I hear the call. The ship's beside the stony wall. Foam is white and waves are grey; beyond the sunset leads my way. Foam is salt, the wind is free; I hear the rising of the Sea. ------------------ Each set of pages has a large drawing of Bilbo on various stages of his journey to the Havens, and 2 smaller drawings of his journey in The Hobbit. The drawings are very intricate and pretty, and Tokien really liked the illustrator, as I mentioned before. Just a simple verse, but a nice book. It was $13 U.S.
