Ah, yes, I loved the prologue. Cate did an astounding job with her voice. But why, may I ask, did they choose Galadriel to be the voice-over speaker?

My guess is because she's the character who best personifies the elves' tragedy. She ties together the strands of the rings, struggle with Sauron, the loss of their own powers.

Being the senior Noldor of ME, she also links with the FA mythos. She stands apart somewhat from Elrond, who was portrayed as being a formerly "hands-on" type who's become slightly cynical of the corruptibility of men.

I thought the film's distinction between Elrond (definitely a half-elf) and Galadriel (definitely "Other", of another world) was very effective. I think it's going to enable them to portray the facing of elves with great subtlety.

I think they did an admirable job on Galadriel. She looked majestic, mysterious, but also concerned for the races of middle earth. I think she did the prologue because she remembered it, and she could relate to it. She's an oracle therefore she's supposed to know what happened inthe past ages of middle earth. Cate Blanchett had to deepen her voice for the movie. On the interviews on the DVD, her voice is different. If she didn't deepen her voice then I don't think she could have been believable.

She did an Awsome job with her voice. I saw how theyy made the film and when she talked in her normal voice Cate sounded like a different person.

Cate's voice was fantastic. It was powerful, wise, and mysterious all at once. The part where she goes all blue and cat-like and looks like a computer graphic wasn't the best, but she was still good.

I think she did the voice-over because she was the oldest on in the movie (I research it, this gal's older than dirt!), and she was the wisest, Sage-like being in the movies, possibly in the books. Someone called her an "oracle," I somewhat agree. She was looked up to by all the members of the Fellowship, it seems only fitting that she introduce and (if rumours are correct, which they seldom are ) end the story.

Most, I agree, was good. But that bit where Frodo offers her the Ring and she becomes this radioactive-viking-queen-elf-lady... not smooth. Definitely not a good bit there, and after she looked all pale and washed-out.
But the rest was good.

I think Cate was PERFECT Galadriel. It's good that she doesn't look like a young girl, because Galadriel has lived a very long time. It's just good that her face shows the experience of life.
And her way to speak...I LOVE IT. IT'S PERFECT.

I think the prologue was superb - set the scene for the great unread, set the mood and the tone ( nice the way they nicked a bit of her later speach and inserted it here ) and generally made my hair stand up on end ( and believe me when you've got a skin head, thats a really neat trick ) - is there going to be another prologue before ttt to reset the scene so to speak ?

Since Cirdan was in the movie, Galadriel was not the oldest.

But (correct me if I'm wrong) Cirdan wasn't one of the Noldor; Galadriel couldn't return to Valinor until she had rejected the ring and thereby renounced the oath of Feanor, or something. Hence, she's the fulcrum of all that stuff.
