Middle Earth in our world?

Have you guys ever met someone that, as soon as you meet them, you immediately classify them into some Middle Earth race? I met two people this summer and one could have been a hobbit if only he were a foot shorter, and the other would have felt completely at home with the ents! He was even tall and thin, and reminded me of a, well, tall and thin tree! Anyway, I was just wondering.

I guess there are some similar things in ME and in the "real" world...
I, personally, saw places I could imgine as Mirkwood or Lothlorien, and people I thought are very similar to Legolas in my imagination.

Until it joins some larger way

And whither then? I cannot say.

I know exactly how you feel! I got to go to Ireland for 4 weeks this summer w/ my Mom to visit some of our relations, and I swear, the countryside there looks exactly like something out of the Shire! I kept imagining little hobbit holes all over the place.

I will frequently imagine people I know as different creatures from ME. I'll be sitting in a classroom or somewhere at school, watching people, thinking...hmm, he strikes me as an elf, oh yeah, he is such a hobbit, and so on and so forth. I think that it's a lot of fun and a great way to pass time. It's tons of fun in malls and cafes as well.

I remember reading that Tolkien commented on his publisher, after meeting him that "he looks exactly like one of my dwarves, only I don't think he smokes." His publisher was short, bright-eyed and bearded.

I volunteer at the local soup kitchen, and there was this man that looked very old, but he acted like he had immense energy and he also had a great sense of humor. He was silly and he made light of his current situation. He reminded me of Gandalf the Grey, and I enjoyed talking to him. I never saw him at the soup kitchen again.

I know three extremely short people I consider Hobbits. I've seen two really tall blondes that remind me of Elves, and the rest just look like humans.

my brother's coach looks like a hobbit. according to my brother he actually gets that a lot. (or at least once in a while) sometimes he and i will sit around and compare people to races and specific characters. oh yeah and my gym teacher is an orc!!!!! so is the lady next door but thats kind of mean because i'm sure she's nice enough. but her dog is still shelob. thats a bit of a story in itself. my dad acts a lot like gandalf in some ways.

hahaha a shelob-dog? now that would be crazy to see. there's a dog in my neighborhood that would be an orc if he were a human. i have to walk past his house on my way back from babysitting, and sometimes it's pitch black, so when he starts barking and growling, i just book it!

My husband reminds me of Faramir! (I'm lucky)

Also, once I was in a store and I saw a necklace that I am absolutely SURE was made in Lorien! Of course, it was my duty to buy it immediately and help support the elves there.
