Has Nasa been doing a good job lately?

No, they have been messing up to much. I think they should get more funding because they need better minds there.

I think we need more info about our planet than space. NASA needs to start funding deep ocean/sea research and such.

I think NASA should look into Solar Sailing more instead of just leaving the job to private companies who can barely fund it. I was reading an article in my September issue of Popular Science. A private company is launching the first solar sailor in December this year, and another company is planning on sending one out in 2005 if they can get enough funding. I think if NASA went into this field, we could get very far.

I think they're doing relatively well. They detected the cracks in the space shuttles and thus prevented a lot of trouble. I think they just could use a little more funding. They did lose Contour though. How can it simply 'break in two' when it's still in orbit?

I didn't know solar sails were that far already, I thought they were still science fiction. Interesting.

Well here is som more info. Nasa gets less than one percent of the national budget. If they got at least five percent they could probably go a long way. What do you think?

The poor bastards are underfunded. I bet if there was some serious competition again, they'd get better funding. I can just imagine it now.... "Mr. President: Bin Laden has just landed on the moon." "Quick! Allocate 20% of the funding for the war on terrorism into NASA!"

You do? That must be a first!

We wonders how much of the budget is allocated to military... yesss, we wonders. Is it crunchy? Is it good to eat?

I think NASA is doing a good job. I am a bit of a space geek so I want more funding for research and exploration. Bad things start to happen when funding is a problem, for example the Challenger disaster. I think they are planning to go to Mars in around 10 - 20 years. That is so exciting, since I missed the whole moon landing thing.

I think that they should downsize all this "life on mars" and "life on other planets" crap and begin colonizing the moon, mars and the rest Solar system.

Isn't that the point, though? They need to find out if these planets are capable of supporting life in order to colonize it.

To begin with, we have been to the moon, so going back shouldn't be such a hazardous mission. And by colonizing the moon we take a huge step towards the rest of the Solar System.
And they have to use habitats on Mars anyway in the beginning. So going THERE as soon as possible (2004 or 05 for example) in a modified space shuttle I think would be feasible. And after that sending people to the Asteroid Belt would be a breeze. Pretty soon we have the Jovian and Saturnus systems and Pluto in firm grip.

Colonizing other planets is still way of in the future, I think. I wonder what the use of colonizing the moon is. The costs of setting up a permanent lunar base are tremendous and the benefits are few. And even then it would probably only be a small scientific base. There is a reason why they never went back to the moon after that one landing. I think landing on other planet is the wisest course of action. You never really know a planet until you've set foot on it.

The main expense is just getting out of the damned atmosphere. If we set up the space station, then that should at the very least halve our costs of sending probes into space, etc. Why build a lunar station, if we're building a space station? It makes no sense.

Well why Nasa would set up coloneis on the moon even though it is expensive is because of the growing population problems. If we put people on the moon Earth becomes less crowded. Or we need permenant artificail space colony satelites to sustain people and grow food.

It's going to take years to build lunar bases or space stations that would be able to sustain our populationsurpluss. We don't have that kind of science yet, nor the capital. Above that NASA's task is space exploration, not space colonisation.

The problem with nasa is they have no mission. They're just putzing around with no real purpose.

They need to decide to do womething, and then do it.
