I agree with azalea - never, NEVER, slap a child! It is humiliating, degrading, and if used excessively, I would consider it abuse. My heart just aches when I see a child slapped, in RL or even in the movies or TV. I also agree about spanking kids when you're angry - that's a big no-no (forgive the pun) in my book.

In general, I'm not for spanking. I wouldn't make a huge deal over it within certain boundaries, anyways. And partl;y, it depends on the kid, too. Spanking wouldn't have done me any good,were I ever spanked. I lose it when people get angry- as a little kid, one yell easily reduced me to sobs. If my parents had believed in hitting me, I very well might have become even more afraid.

Fear is both a friend who comforts me and the enemy who breaks me.

YEAH! Spanking is very, very good when used only as punishment (and not as an anger release!!!) Hitting a kid in the face for talking too much and making one angry isn't spanking, that's abusing. Abusing is bad.

I remember that it's the anxiety just before spanking that really gets to me back then; and not the actual pain itself. The pain does not linger. Usually, the longer the wait time, the more I remember it and the deeper the agony.

I'm thankful for it since I didn't grow up an arsonist.

I know that. As BoP said they also cuff them (strike with the hand), growl, hiss, chase, etc. However, it's usually not for knocking over their plate, IF you see where I'm getting at.

I've often seen a pride of lions sitting around at the dinner table - neatly cutting up their zebra on their china with a fork and knife. The adult lions get really mad if the lion cubs don't take the dishes to the local watering hole and clean up though.
