3rd debt vs marshall paln

I don't recall 100% but I believe the marshall plan was the US "lending money" to Europe to rebuild. I "think" we did the same to Japan.

But we never called in those debts did we?

BUT Now we are bleeding the 3rd world.

I will admit my ignorance here so please correct me if i'm wrong

I was glancing over the news and Bono and some politician were touring Africa. One of Bono gripes was that the West is bleeding the 3rd world dry with debt repayment.

I was curious if we had ever called in our debts from Europe from WWII

After most of Europe was bombed and captured the US did lend money to Europe to rebuild, they called it "helping our brave, European allies".

Yes European countries have repaid their debts. With money, aid and leases.
The third world debt has been reduced, restructured, revalued etc. etc. but never paid. As Peter Falk said in "The In-laws" ,"those poor countries will never be able to pay back the debt much less the interest". Most are and have been so corrupt that any monies given went straight to secret accounts of the rulers. Just like the Palestinians today.
We're trying to get something back from those countries who still owe without bleeding them but their collective corruption make it almost imposible.
One last thing. When the hell did Bono become an expert on world relations.

Okay, let me get this straight: You hear your country is busy sucking a few third world countries dry and you wonder whether other countries have repayed their 50-year old loans yet? Rather ironic don't you think?

My question is: Is the US being unfair. If the European countries did not payback there loans why should we force the 3rd world to do so.

The USA isn't the only country that has been overloading othercountries with debts. Europe isn't innocent either. But I believe there are certain plans so that certain countries don't have to pay all their debts or parts of it any more.

Gosh! my head is still filled with german, I can hardly type decent English anymore. I need a break....
