I was thinking, in the wake of the campaigning here, the Gazette's readership has certainly sky-rocketed in an unprecedented way in the history of Tolkien-dedicated messageboards. In the light of this admirable success, isn't it time that we, the loyal readers, scrutinise this magazine a bit, for quality assurance?

Okay, the newspaper might want to vehemently protect its sources. Thus we are unable to check with the sources whether the news presented to us are indeed altogether true. Still, we should demand answers as to how the Gazette secures its information. Is it routine to have a scoop confirmed by at least two independent sources?

The kicker however is this: Who the fudge is the publisher?
From whom can the readers demand ultimate responsibility, honesty and trustworthy news?
To whom does a person turn if he or she is being hounded by the Gazette journalists?
From whom could an innocent person seek redress and compensation, in the event of being prematurely judged or unfairly portrayed by the Gazette?
These are important questions.

I won't recoil from insinuating the possibility that the publisher has an agenda. An agenda which we the readers have a right to be aware of, lest we risk being manipulated!

And god forbid that the publisher turns out to be one of the presidential candidates or their running mates! The very idea of a politician secretly misusing the media to plant his or her own twisted conceptions into the minds of the voters...

Well, to cut it short I think the revelation of the identity of the publisher is of utmost importance! Those who agree, raise your hands

Jonathan Jonathan Jonathan. OF COURSE there are other papers. There's also the Entmoot Daily News, the The Entish Banterer & Banner, The Daily Sunrise Coffee Reader, and of course the paper from over in Mirkwood (currently the only one available here): The Elivish Ragweed.

None of them seem to print as often as the Teacup Table Gazette though

Accusations Fly: Is Jonathan the same person as X Perry Mint?
Entmooter Jonathan, known for serving a long-term sentence in prison for Chocolate smuggling into Mirkwood, has recently been released on bail.

Now heads are wagging as an anonymous source has suggested that Jonathan is the same person as X Perry Mint, who announced his run for the Entmoot Presidency earlier this year. "The 'X' in X Perry Mint stands for 'Jonathan,'" says our anonymous source. According to that source Jonathan has been planning a presidential-run comeback for some time, but has been waiting for the opportune moment. "Running in the election immediately after your first loss is never a smart plan," says Anonymous. "Therefore, you have to wait for the next election cycle after. Unless you use reverse-psychology, as many mooters do, whereby running in the following election wouldn't work either." So what does Jonathan do, according to Anyonymous? "The only thing you can do in that situation...run for president under a different name. Completely re-make yourself."

Even more interesting is Jonathan's reason for hiding his desire to run for the presidency again. According to Anonymous, it is not merely the shame of losing an election to Hectorberlioz that caused Jonathan to recede from the public eye, but also his sleazy/shady (take your pick) Chocolate Smuggling business on the side. Coming from a rich family from the North-East part of Fangorn, Jonathan inherited a huge smuggling cartel that made chocolate illegally and sold it ---even more illegally--- to the elves in Mirkwood, thus endangering the friendly relations that President Hectorberlioz had fostered over the years.

Sentenced to seven years in prison, Jonathan was recently released on bail. The circumstances of his release are sketchy. A million creek nickels were exchanged for his release, yet nobody has been able to confirm the identity of his bailer! "I just liek, don't liek, relly understand liek how you can release a crinimal liek him?" says 17-year-old Eomina from Edoras. "I just liek hope that liek peeple keep their doors locked and stuff."

Preposterous! I'm glad I already raised the question as to who really is the Gazette's editor-in-chief, cause I'm going to sue their sorry person!

I'd like to point out a few things:

First.
I admit to knowing the true identity of X Perry Mint. But alas, honour prevents me from naming the person. Still, there are other Mooters besides me who possess this knowledge, Sane for instance. And Tessar

Second.
The Gazette's source, Anonymous, is a known addict with a multiple personality disorder! The admins banned this person years ago!

Third.
I object to ever having been to Mirkwood! I know how inhospitable the elves can be over there...
I also laugh at the idea of me being a notorious chocolate smuggler. That's Eärniel-territory right there! There are more lucrative smuggling businesses out there for those bold enough to dip their toes in, which don't involve treading powerful chocoholic admins on their toes. But I'd personally rather toe the line than risk keeping any admin on their toes due to shady smuggling ventures. Trying to tip-toe around them is very risky.

I think that the typographical fairy has introduced a slight error in the Gazette's article. Sure, I was imprisoned. However not in prison for seven years until I was bailed out - but in Hector's basement for three weeks until I heroically escaped!


Well, so far I count two raised hands (the Midge/Varna constellation) and one raised brow (Acally). We'd like to raise awareness that the identity of X Perry Mint isn't what is most important - but the identity of the Teacup Table Gazette's publisher!

Midge, I AM NOT currently in office!!! The current presidents are The Sasquatch of Fangorn and Nurvingiel. Both have been absentee presidents for quite some time, which easily explains how Jonathan was able to escape. Nobody is around to guard the prisons!

And this is yet another reason to vote Acalewia/Hectorberlioz this coming May. Not only will we build better prisons and hire more guards, but we will make sure that no criminal is ever released again! And we also promise to get to the bottom of this anti-Tolkien candidate scandal!
