Winter Solstice
Soon winter solstice will be coming. The precise moment of the 2005 winter solstice will be December 21, 2005 at 1:35 P.M. EST (18:35 UT). I celebrate it on the 25th and the 26th of december. This because I don't believe in Jezus Christ, the 25th is actually the birthday of the ancient god Mithras and I don't celebrate that either. Jezus Christ was actually born in January. But my foremost reason of celebrating is the coming of winter, it being on its highest peak, the dimming of light and the return of light. I also celebrate Summer Solstice and Spring and Fall Equinox.
Are there people here who celebrate the solstices and the equinoxes?

I'll celebrate anything if it's an excuse to get drunk.

i'm putting a "holiday" tree up
![]() you are correct though, all religions who have chosen this time of year to celebrate certain events have done so because of the much older traditions in the northern hemisphere of celebrating the solstice... and, in fact, many religions placed their holidays during this time of year to sanctify, or tame, the celebrations, which often got quite rowdy as a result of people being pent up inside due to the short days and cold weather of course, being the traditionalist i am, i prefer the rowdy celebrations ![]()

I celebrate the Solstice in the sense that I mark that it's happening and I'm glad the days are getting longer.
Except, I thought the 21st of December was the solstice, so maybe I don't actually mark its passing. (??)

Well, Festivus is officially the 21st although many people have mixed dates that they use.
