The Young Ones
I searched for a thread about this and I couldn't find one (if so then just close this one). I couldn't believe that there wasn't one!
Anyone seen the Young Ones? It's amazing, and absolutly hilarious.

I'm glad I saw this before it dropped off the page! I have been a Young Ones fan for many years.

It has to be one of the best comedys ever, yet hardly anyone seem to like it. And I can't understand why? Vyv has to be my favorite character in it!

I was always partial to Neil .
What was your favorite episode? Mine is Bambi. Especially the sketch with Rik and Neil on the train studying. And then the University challenge: "Scumbag...Vyvian" "What?" I also like this one: "What's this" "It's a fish, Mike." (he leaves and comes back) "What's this fish doing in my bedroom?" "It's not in your bedroom, Mike." (he leaves and comes back without the fish) "What's this fish doing in my bedroom?" (Everyone): "What fish?" And then there was ET, the beginning scene a takeoff on Dallas: (Rik)"I've just GOT to see ET" "It's been out for two years, Mr. Malvenous, haven't you seen it yet?" "Not the FILM! ET Fairfax, the oil tycoon, your boss" "Mr. Fairfax will see you now." "ET, I've just received this meeemo!" etc. Did you ever see a series called The Comic Strip? It had Rik Mayall and the guy who played Neil. It was funny, but not like TYO. It was more subtle and a little odd. |

What about those little subliminal flashes of a picture they'd include in each show, like the one that's a closeup of someone's hands under running water? We used to record them and pause so we could see what it was.

I can remember when it came out, me and all my mates loved it - it was the sort of thing your parents either hated or didn't understand, which just added to the appeal.
I liked the totally random asides like the Four Riders of the Apocolaypse bit: "Death, do you want a game of Travel Scrabble? DEATH, DO YOU WANT A GAME OF TRAVEL SCRABBLE?" (pause) "Death's DEAD!" The Young Ones will always be one of the things that defines the Eighties for me.
