Bad popular music
The "Back in the day" and "Pop Culture" threads made me remember some really awful songs that topped the charts. Why people like this stuff is beyond me! Three I can think of are "Kung Fu Fighting" by ??, "Brand New Key" by Melanie, and the incredible "Muskrat Love" by Captain and Teneille. I know there are others...........

Aw. I like Kung Fu Fighting and Brand New Key! Not Muskrat Love, though (I don't really remember how it goes). I can think of a lot of bad pop music: how about The Osmonds, My Ding a Ling by Chuck Berry, DISCO DUCK!????!! And later on: Two of Hearts by Stacy Q (I gag just thinking of that song), and (I know a lot of people liked this song but) Eternal Flame by the Bangles.

Lol, StacyQ Bet you liked that fine video she had too. There was that horrible "Mickey" by Toni Basil also. I believe the siren who gave us Midnight at the Oasis was Maria Muldar..

Hey now, don't be dissin' Disco Duck! I'll tell you a song I hate. "Steal My Sunshine" by the one-hit wonder Len. I really don't know why I despise that song so much, but I really do hate it with a passion. Or even worse: "Mmmbop" by Hanson. Ugh.

I sure was glad when they quit paying "Rubber Band Man" by the spinners, What was the point of that! Dexie's Midnight Runners "Come on Eileen" was annoying, but the video always cracked me and my husband up, the Irish hayseed look was highly amusing I'll confess to liking MMMbop. Better than Disco Duck, (don't be a cluck!)

Lizra I know you're older than me so you were probably around 20 or so when that song came out but " rubber band man" man was cool
But I think the MOST over played song was " you light up my life" i think that even made some crappy ABC movie based on that song Two of hearts LOL

Ick, Rick Astley. I like the song Rubber Band Man too. I didn't like Mmmmbop, but I thought Hanson was a cooler pop band than a lot of them out there. At least they actually played instruments!

Ok Azalea! You're on record for liking Kung Fu Fighting, Brand New Key, and Rubber Band Man, Hee hee . I have a faint memory of a horrible song about "Bertha Butt" when I was in High School. The Tiny Tim thing was beyond me also.
