Good Things about France
This is the real test of our new-found courtesy towards each other's countries - let's try and be nice about a country no one has ever admitted to liking
Go on, say one nice thing about France. Just one. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all Mine is: Paris could well be the most beautiful city in the world.

Yes, we should definitely say nice things about other countries. Too much bashing of other nations here (And I'm NOT talking about one-sided bashing either).
France has a wonderful, expressive language. It has also produced my favourite movie, Amélie. And just to show what a good sport I am: New Zealand is fantastic. I'd really love to go there one day. Their accents are strange (), but the Kiwis I have met are lovely people. Though apparently they don't say "Bless you" or anything when someone sneezes, but that's fine. |

ONE nice thing about France? I love the place, I could go on for hours!
But for now: Drinking all night in a bar in the Auvergne and finding out at the end that the owner had let us have all the beers on the house. Hiring an apartment in St Malo's old town and finding there was a bar selling 300 types of bottled beer around the corner. Carcassonne. Playing petanque until late in the night with the locals. Sitting on a terrace drinking the local wine. Pizzas in the open air on a warm evening in Limoux town square. Finding out that Carcassonne and Limoux are rugby league towns!

I don't mind drinking champagne on occasion. Sorry that's about it on my part.

My father lived there for four years when he was in foreign service. He developed an appreciation for wine and fresh baked goods, learned to make espresso and met and married my step-mother there (she was also in the foreign service -- she's not French).
I think it would be a lovely place to visit. It's always seemed very romantic to me.

Jim Morrison is buried in Paris.
And since I must wait 90 seconds, I think the language is cool too, and Paris is a beautiful city, if not a traffic nightmare.

Amen to that!
And French food ... mmmm ... Paris has much nice architecture, but is too loaded with traffic. Imagine how beautiful Champs Elysees would have been without all those cars.

La langue est tres jolie. (That was probably a grammatically horrible sentence).
I dreamed about Jean what's his name who played Leon in The Professional last night. (I watched that movie several nights ago for the second time. I tend to have those dreams where you dream about something you watched or did, but it's delayed by several days. It's weird.) |

Another great thing about France is that every now and then they come up with a really interesting movie (un-Hollywoodish).
There was one (with Oliver Reed as the bad guy) where the lead actress drives through France and everywhere she goes people recognize her, even bringing her a dress they mended, when she's never been there before (forget the title). And when I was there the regional markets (Bordeaux and Marseilles especially) had great, cheap food (useful, since I was running low on money). Plus, in Marseilles you can take a boat out and see where the Count of Monte Cristo slept (just don't let on he's fictional). That's one bit I liked in The French Connection, where Frog One met his coconspirators there (Hmm, Popeye Doyle as Ambassador to France? Well, maybe not).

There are so many things that I like about France.
I love the language, qui est fantastique. I love the French cuisine, French food is absolutely delicious. And the Mediterrannean food culture is one of a kind. I love Paris. I worked as a 'trainee' at a museum in Paris for two weeks last year. Some of the best two weeks of my life. French cheese is yummie too. And wine and champagne. The French make good movies too and good music. Quote:

I make a lot of French dishes. So I like French food - including escargot.
