Name That Artist!
I have finally gotten the idea I have been waiting for 4 so long, thank you Muse. It is this: Every once in a while, I shall submit to you all a pic of a painting or sculpture - mostly painting, since that's somewhat less complicated - created by a famous and influential artist of the world. This artist could be from anywhere, and/or any time period, but for the most part to begin with I shall concentrate on Europe and the 16th through the 20th century. *wonders how many mooters will actually play, hopes a lot of them*
The rules are, you must name the artist and also name the title of his or her piece. If you get it right, and it becomes your turn, you must choose to present an artist of RENOWN to base your own "art trivia" question upon. Capiche? Buon. Cominciamo. I shall start off with a very famous 20th century artist. Who painted THIS, and what is the title of this work:

Indeed it IS a Picasso, from 1907! This is a very important work of modern art - Gertrude Stein called it "a veritable cataclysm," and indeed it was, in more ways than just one or two. It was truly a ground-breaker. Anyone care to venture a supposition on the NAME of this piece? It's killing me, not to be able to give it away...

Oui, c'est vrai, Hasty Ent - "Les Demoiselles D'Avignon."
Here's another one, really easy this time. I mean, seriously, it's a dead give-away, but I'm tryna start this thread out gently. Can anyone provide us with the name of this painting, and the name of the artist:

Sunflowers by Van Gogh, except I'm pretty sure that's a copy.

That's the one! And, yes, it would appear that this is indeed, a copy. Note the signature on the bottom right hand corner.
Here's a slightly more difficult one, and this time it isn't a copy: This was done in 1863, and caused quite a stir when it was first exhibited.

And you got it right. Except for a slight spelling error; it's "Edouard." Do you want to post a new painting, so I can try getting one?

Oath of the Horatii
By... Jacques-Louis David. I like that one! I like the story from pre republican Rome. Three brothers from Alba (the Curatus family) were to fight three brothers from Rome (the Horatii) in order to settle a despuite between the two city states. This was the scene in which they (Horatii) were pledging an oath to their father to live and die for Rome. Only one bit of a problem, the youngest brother (middle with bronze helm) was married to one of the sisters of the Curatus brothers, and the sister of the Horatii was married to the youngest of the Curatus brothers...I forgot how it ended though....
