Light Saber VS The Force
As shown in the fight between Mace Windu and Darth Sidious, your light saber skills are more important than your mastery of the force, because it is clearly shown that Mace Windu would have won.
Although if Anakin Skywalker had reached his potential in the ways of the Dark Side, he would have easily been able to mind control Mace Windu, or suck the life force out of him. So whats more important, light saber skill, or force mastery? |

force mastery is more important in my opinion..
1. Force mastery allows increased speed reflexes etc 2. It allows more power, force push etc On that note is it just me or did it seem that sidious onliy started to lose after Anakin started coming?

Mace Windu was winning all along, he was conserving his energy yet managing to defend himself while Sidious was wasting it, Mace Windu was waiting for the right time to strike. |

Light saber skill, in terms of Jedi battles, is really all about the force. What makes one such an incredible saberist is one's ability to anticipate their opponent's moves via the force, and ones increased agility and speed, which also comes via force mastery. Without the force, you could be an incredibly skilled saberist and still be trounced by an average saberist with the force on his side. One example of this is Luke's ability to master the saber so quickly, eventhough he had never used one before Obi Wan handed it to him. And how quickly his skill improves over the course of the movies, due mostly to his increased force mastery.
It also seems that power in the force translates into speed and anticipation when battling. Sidious, who was incredibly strong in the force, was able to kill three Jedi in mere seconds before facing Windu. Windu, by comparison, put up a much better fight and would have won without Anakin stepping in (which kind of throws out the whole Jedi prophecy, but that's another argument ). This was not because he was more skilled at the saber, but because he was more skilled in the force.

So, yeah, force is more important.

Well yeah, but haven't you ever not used the right name for something when talking to an expert on it?
Ah well... Maybe I'm wrong... Quote:

For a jedi the force and saber skills are entwined.
Only the sith would consider them seperate. (Or a non-force user, such as us! )

indeed. i was reading somewhere how difficult it would actually be to handle a lightsaber, as it would be weightless, so someone such as ourselves would not be able to swing what would feel like an "empty handle" without the counterbalance of a blade, and still have the accuracy and poise a jedi has.
ergo, i'd find a lightsaber useless without the force. (P.S. you can't just block blaster bolts without the force, either )

Who would want to miss, anyway? A dummy? Or someone who knows better than to commit suicide, but doesn't want to live? The options could be endless....
