I think this thread actually needs to go in the entertainment forum.
As for me, though, I would have to say that from time to time I enjoy Maroon 5 (although the lead singer gets irritating if you listen to him for long), and I REALLY enjoy Matchbox 20--Rob Thomas can sing very well, and I love his voice on uptempo and slow styles of songs. |

By "best" do you mean technically proficient at their instrument because most mainstream/pop music, atleast in America, wouldn't fall under that category, but there are a few exceptions.

In my opinion it's not best bands but best band. Pink Floyd. The one and only.
Ah, well. maybe bands after all, there's so much lovely music. I shall not name it all, will be far to much. Pink Floyd is the best, period.

2Pac Shakur, U2, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. The 5 best "bands" of the latter half of the 20th century. Period.

It is precisely because of Kurt Cobain that I say "Nirvana". He changed music with his contribution - It's Cobain I should say, not necessarily his whole band. Off topic a little, can I just say - WHY the HELL do all the good ones die??? So far, U2 is safe from this phenomenon, knock on wood...

I'm not a massive fan, and only really like a select few bands. These are: Oasis, Queen, U2 and Stereophonics.

Queen and Pearl Jam are my absolute favourites - but there are lots of great bands out there.

You like Pearl Jam - I met Eddie Vedder years ago back when I was living in Seattle. What an intense, intense guy. His eyes are like piercing glaciers; they bore right into the soul of a person. It was unsettling, but I could feel his artistic angst to the core of me. Very powerful artist, that Eddie Vedder.

When considering a best band I consider a few things..
1) Did the band create a unique and original sound for themselves? 2) Did the musicians display sensitivity to lyrics, as well as the, music? 3) Has the band impacted and influenced other musicians and to what degree? With that in mind, I think the best band would have to be Pink Floyd. They had excellent musicians, good lyrics and could be argued one of the pioneers in the progressive rock genre. Not to mention the number of bands I could list that have been inspired by Pink Floyd. Last edited by Ragnarok : 05-18-2005 at 01:56 PM. |
