Through the books wich is the most efective weapon?

i'm partial to the bow for it is good at long range fighting.
I also like swords because Aragorn takes like 100 orcs a battle and it looks really cool. but through all i'd say axes are the most efective in battle even if they look stupid.

Ok, you say in the books, then you talk about it LOOKING COOL when Aragorn takes "like 100 orcs", presumably in the movie. What are you talking about?

Well, Grond seemed to be very effective...

While I'm no guess on the mechanics of Middle-Earth magic, I would guess that a Wizard's Staff is a very powerful weapon, indeed. There were many powerful weapons.

Courage is the most effective weapon........wether a character swung a sword, axe or shot a bow makes no difference...they all kill

The One Ring is a pretty good weapon.
Dragons are very destructive as well.

combined arms, meled with tatcial formation appropriate to each is the key to success. Center the line with phlanxes of long spears/pikes. Bowmen behind these, and back of them a unit of elite long sword infantry. flank it with legion like infantry (javlins, short sword, formation not quite as tight as the Phalanx), back this portion with heavy shock cavalry ready to blow open any crack in the enemies line, next flank with various light auxiliary infantry, outside that with light cavalry and horse archers.

I don't think it can be said which was the most effective weapon, it all depends on who's weilding it. If you gave Legolas Aragorn's sword I doubt he'd be as good with that, in the same way if you gave Gimli Legolas' bow. The One Ring would be a mighty weapon in the wrong hands but Frodo chooses not to use it that way and so its power as a weapon is somewhat obsilite! Mx

Gandalf

I believe that fear is a powerful weapon, whoever may use it.
For example the Nazgul strike fear into the hearts of their enemies and allies. Gandalf also used fear to fight against his enemies.

The fate of many

.

I hate to sound boring, but

pity, faith and courage

are the compounds of the ultimate weapon.

After all, were not arms and battle used as mere diversions?

"...Bilbo was meant to find the ring, and not by its maker. In which case you were meant to have it. And that may be an encouraging thought."

Good point. Tolkien talks about this in 'Unfinshed tales'. Wormtounge, so it seems, met the Nazgul on the way to Sarumon and was almost killed through the fear that he had of them.

...though I think a sword would have had a better effect

Words. Just look what Grima managed with them.

Alternately, well, the One Ring of Power might be sorta powerful 'n stuff . . .

The most dagerous weapon...man power or orc power however you would like you phrase it. It's all a numbers game.

I would say the best weapon is the bow, but if it is concidered to be the most effective weapon then I'll say the sword, or better Gandolfs (okay, I don't know this word in english, well the thing he carries with him, all the wizards have such a thing). Sorry for that.
