Gandalf Wielder of the flame of arnor

what does it mean??? The lost realm of arnor is in the north- so does this mean that Gandalf rules this part of middle earth- or somthing else???

Heroic self-sacrificing death scene ruined by arrival of Gandalf and still-insufferable Eomer. Why did Gandalf wait until dawn to arrive? Suspect is so he would be most attractively backlit while riding down hill. Drama Queen. Have gotten revenge on him by telling all my men Gandalf is wearing fishnets under white robe. First one who snaps his garter gets to snog Legolas.

Who wields the flame of Arnor now, you poncy tosser?

Finally some decent fighting: Orcs killed: hundreds. Humans killed: 1- go Uruk-Hai!

V. bored in Barad-Dur. Nothing to do but play Scrabble with Orcs. Is v. annoying as Orcs only know Black Speech of Mordor. You try spelling Azg Nazg Gimbatul for a triple word score. Yeah, I didn't think so.

I think GAndalf says "wielder of the flame of Anor" Anor is the Sindarin elvish name for the Sun.

And another note, from HoME 10, Morgoth's Ring, "Myths Transformed" - it looks like the light in the sun is part of the "Imperishable Flame" that only comes from Ilúvatar (God). After Melkor had messed things up a bit, Ilúvatar called Varda to him and gave to her a gift of "a light that is holy, coming new from Me...." Then Varda set an "ardent and beautiful" Maia named Arië in charge of the sun and gave to Arië part of the gift from Ilúvatar "so that the Sun should endure and be blessed and give blessing".

The Gandalf is confusing! thread (use the search engine because I'm too lazy to code) has some quotes from HoME on this.

Gandalf Ring

The Flame of Arnor is a name for the elvish ring that Gandalf wears. He was given it by Elrond. The ring serves as his main source of power, especially his skills with fire.

Gandalf Whoops

That was a load of rubbish I just posted.

Gandalf was gifted "Narya", the ring of fire by Cirdan, the shipwright at the Grey Havens.

This might well be open to debate, but I don't even think that ring is the main source of his powers - fire or otherwise. But I think it did enhance them.
