Dwarven Rings
We know what the One Ring does, and we know what the Elven rings did, and we can guess at the Nine (similar powers to the One, but in direct service to it.)
But all we know about the Dwarven Rings are that they need gold to breed gold. Were they somekind of mechanical power, similar to whatever power in the One built the foundations of Barandur? Any theories/guesses? |

I always thought that they just gave you good "luck."(figuratively) I don't think they actually made gold.

I think it may have increased their lust for gold.

I think the Dwarven Rings held their kingdoms together(like the Elven Rings did for Rivendell and Lothlorien). Somewhere in LotR, there is a quote about a Ring being the center of every great Dwarf hoard. Look what happened to Moria after Durin's Ring was lost...no Dwarf could restore Moria to its old (lust)er.

Ringbearer, the quote you're thinking of with the dwarf hoard I think is rather in Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age in the Silmarillion. At least that passage is in there, whether it is also in the Lord of the Rings or not. I read it recently.

rings
Comic Book Guy, although the rings did increase their lust for gold, I think it must have done more than that to be so valued by the Dwarves.

I think Sauron gave the rings to the dwarves in hopes of controlling them much in the way the none controlled men. but they only drove the dwarves to lust for riches.. I know this is written somewhere.. I need to re-read all that is Tolkien me thinks....

yes it made them lust for gold and mithril but it also gave them better ability to find the stuff and set their focus on it all the more.

I agree with Psycho Kitty- btw- I love your avatar.
There's little mention of the Dwarves rings, except that they probably enhanced their skills in mining and metalurgy. They were all rings of power, and gave the bearer greater power according to their stature. Only the one ring was evil, so I don't think it increased their lust for wealth.
