Ford Scene, olsonm style...well, sorta
O.K., here's how I'd redo the imfamous ford scene. I'm gonna leave it pretty close to PJ's version because I'm too lazy to totally rethink it right now (and to honor PJ's seeming Liv 'jones' ). Also, if you don't like it you can still blame PJ!
I'm starting just after Arwen crosses the river and turns to face the Ringwraiths. 1. MED. SHOT-ANGLE ON ARWEN SHE LOOKS AT R.W.'S (past cam.); THEN LOOKS EXPECTANTLY TO THE RIGHT UP THE RIVER. 2. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON BEND IN THE RIVER THIS SHOT IS IN THE DIRECTION ARWEN IS LOOKING (from shot 1); NOTHING IS MOVING, THE WATER IS CALM. 3. CLOSE UP ON FRODO FRODO (still somewhat out of it) LOOKS PAST CAM. AT R.W. 4. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON R.W. WE SEE R.W. UNMASKED IN THE WRAITH WORLD(wind, greyness, etc.). THIS IS CLEARLY WHAT FRODO IS SEEING. 5. MED. CLOSE UP-ANGLE ON WITCH KING WE ARE STILL SEEING WRAITH WORLD WITCH KING(menacingly)/ COME BACK! COME BACK! TO MORDOR WE WILL TAKE YOU! 6. CLOSE UP ON FRODO (same as in shot 3) NOW SEEING REAL WORLD; A LOOK OF ANGER/FEAR PASSES OVER FRODO'S FACE. HE STRUGGLES TO SIT UP. FRODO(crys;thin & shrill)/ GO BACK! GO BACK TO THE LAND OF MORDOR!/ (whispered) GO BACK! 7. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON R.W. THE R.W. BEGIN TO CROSS RIVER, LED BY WITCH KING. 8. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON ARWEN SHE DRAWS HER SWORD AND HOLDS IT UP. ARWEN(in a calm voice)/ BY ELBERETH AND LUTHIEN THE FAIR, YOU SHALL HAVE NEITHER THE RING NOR FRODO. 9. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON WITCH KING THE WITCH KING, NOW HALFWAY ACROSS THE RIVER, STANDS UP IN HIS STIRRUPS AND RAISES HIS HAND. 10. SMASH CUT TO MED. CLOSE UP-ANGLE ON ARWEN HER SWORD SHATTERS IN HER HAND. THE CAM. PANS DOWN (slightly) TO SHOW FRODO BEGINNING TO CONVULSE. 11.CLOSE UP-DOWN ANGLE ON THE RIVER WHERE ASFALOTH STANDS THE WATER BEGINS TO RISE AND SWIRL ABOUT ASFALOTH'S FEET. (this is the same shot as in the movie) 12. MED. CLOSE UP ON ARWEN ARWEN'S ATTENTION SHIFTS FROM CONVULSING FRODO TO THE WATER AS SHE NOTICES WHAT IS HAPPENING. 13. SMASH CUT TO MED. CLOSE UP-ANGLE ON ARWEN FROM HER RIGHT. HER HEADS SNAPS UP AND SHE LOOKS PAST THE CAM. UP THE RIVER. 14. WIDE SHOT-ANGLE ON BEND IN THE RIVER(same as in shot 2) THE FLOOD RUSHES AROUND THE BEND! The rest of the scene can play out like in the movie (i.e.: 'destruction' of R.W., Frodo slumps, Arwen lowers him to the ground, etc.). I'd leave out the whole grace thing though. I'm working on some alterations to make the scene more accurately portray Frodo's display of courage. Any suggestions or alternate versions are more than welcome! (thou', criticisms would shatter my fragile pysche j/k! )

Hey, I like it! It's a nice compromise on what P.J. had with Arwen's cheesy line, and Frodo showing his bravery. It's good.

What about Arwen falling off Asfaloth while the Ringwraiths are chasing them. Then Aragorn can say - "So much for being a better rider" as she brushes off her pants. That way Frodo could have his lines back the way they should have been and defy the Nazgul alone. Aragorn gets to regain some of his dignity and regroup everyone to force the Ring Wraiths into the water.
It also provides the comic relief so many people in hollywood like to spoon feed the audience.

Thanks Eruviel.
jd, Arwen was the better rider, search your feelings, you know this to be true! j/k! Seriously though, I thought Arwen said she was the faster rider. I haven't seen it in about a month so I could be mistaken, but I thought she meant that as an elf she would be a lighter burden for Asfaloth and would allow him to run faster. P.S. Was the the camera direction clear? I mean could you piture it on a screen?

Your welcome.
I would generally assume elves would be faster riders. 'Cause they're elves.

I was just being sarcastic. I just hate Jackson's version of the Flight to the Ford scene and what he did with Arwen's character - so having her fall off a horse would be justice in my opinion.
Normally I would think that an elf would be a better and faster rider too. But in Arwen's case - the general public wouldn't know the difference. So I say let her fall.

You know Olsonm, I kind of like your picturing of the scene. It would definately lift the movie-Arwen in my opinion. Pick up the phone and give PJ a call! Maybe you can save some parts of the nxt two movies too.

Yayy olsonm! NO MORE Arwen-the-elf-magician. And Elbereth is mentioned! Demand a remake of the scene! NOW!

If pj had settled for something like that, I might be able to forgive myself for not killing him outright.

I prefer olsonm's version. Arwen is much to perfect and makes all the other charecters look weak. Bring back Glorfindel!

Small price to pay for a movie that has so much cinematic wonderment to offer.

Thanks everybody! Frankly, I'm surprised people liked it this much. Man, you must have really hated PJ's version!
aldesign; Hm, never thought about that (being a dir.)! Thanks! JD; I'd have her fall but then I'd be afraid people would say: "olsonm weakened Asfaloth's character!!! He would never lose his rider!" IronParrot; I agree that it was a small price to pay. (shh! keep it quiet though. i don't want the Glorfindel Society of America to come after me!) Renille; Alas! it's too late for that. Should I say it or do you want to?

olsonm this stinks!!! The fact that it comes close to the book makes it worse than what PJ did!! Pj's version was so different that we could disassociate it from the book. But this teases us with lines out of the book and then betrays us by still having 'Pjarwen' steal Frodo's most important lines!! For shame olsonm!
(sorry about that, but I needed somebody to say somthing bad about it. )

The nazgul are close behind and one reache sout for the poor hobbit you know the usual cinario when Arwen head sinto a copse of trees and WOOOOSH OVER she goes. Frodo bolts upright and slows the horse down. The nazgul stops. EJW:*laughing his head off*Liv, you ok? Liv:Ouch! NG:Here let me help you. Liv:NO!I can get down myself SHe tries to get down and falls out of the tree. Pj and every starts to laugh at her Liv:I cant deal with this I will be in my trailer! Stupid I know but I needed a funny thought Sam

Oh, olsonm...self berating...now THAT'S annoying! The book is the best place to get the scenes from the movie! What could be better than the originals! Come on, you KNOW it was good.

This is what I want to see:
Arwen has frodo, but gets knocked off and hangs on a branch. The nazgul stop and hit on her. Frodo makes his escape.

You violent, anti-Arwen people. . .*shakes head* honestly! She wasn't that bad! Wait, did I just say that?
No, I think your idea is great, olsonm!
