What are we going to do?

What are we going to do when we get through with the Silmarillion Project? Make a sticky? Archive it and post a permanent link? What are your ideas?

Hmmm, haven't given it much thought. It should be preserved though, shouldn't it, especially after everyones hard work? Yeah, maybe we can do something in the way of storing it. We can gather up all the chapters and bunch them together in the archives or something. Let's see what others think we may be able to do.

I think that would be a good idea SGH. A place where one could read all of the chapters intros would be awesome.

“What does the term american refers to” asked the boy, and the wise man answered: “Lets look at the dictionary then.”
As an adjective American is:
1. Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture.
2. Of or relating to North or South America, the West Indies, or the Western Hemisphere.
As a noun American is:
A native or inhabitant of America.
A citizen of the United States.

Then the boy asked, “What is America then?”, and the wise man looked at the dictionary again:
1. The United States.
2. also the A·mer·i·cas. The landmasses and islands of North America, Central America, and South America.

Confused, the boy asked, “Does the term american refers solely to a us citizen or to any person in North, Central or South America?”
The wise man replied: “What do you think?”, and the boy answered: “It is clear to me that while the term american is used to refers to us citizens, one can also use it to refer to any person who is from that continent too,” the boy thought for a while and asked the wise man, “Am I right?”, and he replied: “But of course.”
The boy wondered, why is it that some people refuse to acknowledge the fact that the term american refers not only to US citizens but to anyone of the American continent?, but then sadly, the boy understood, that it is the calamity of ignorance.

Not just the intros please, I'd like to have easy access to the entire threads (which may have been what you meant anyway).

If you're gonna bury them in the archives I'd like to display a link to it also, to let newbs and guests know it is there.

That's a very good idea Artanis. We can put up a thread with the link, and I'll lock the thread and stick it to the top of the main page.

I agree with Artanis that some of the commentary is as valuable as the intros, themselves. I dunno how to do it, though, because it would be one long thread. Maybe each Intro author could pick the most valuable comments, properly attributed, of course.

No, one long thread is not practical. If I understand SGH right, she's suggesting to put up a new sticky thread, in which we could put up links to each of the project threads in the first post.

For some reason I thought they were going to stay in the forum, so that there would be a thread for each chapter where people could discuss, ask questions, etc., either when they read it for the first time or re-read it. But at the very least I say archive them, and I vote for the entire threads.

Well, I don't know about leaving them in the forum, won't they eventually fall into the abyss after awhile?

I thought we could just move each one to the archives, and then have a stuck, locked thread in the Sil forum, with the link to each chapter. Anything else would be difficult to do, and I think (not sure) that if they stay in the forum, they will eventually be lost.

This is probably the best idea.

I'm all for that: a sticky thread with links to each individual, archived thread! Cool.

Well, bad news guys. Ben said NO! He said that there is no reason to move them to the archives. I told him that we hateses him forever.

But - what's the difference? You could still put up links to them in a sticky thread, or did Ben say no to that too?

Given what a unique project it was, I must say that I'm surprised that he doesn't want it archived. And yet those crappy pranking threads are?!

Well that's a little disappointing. Surely they are as worthy of memory as the pink-and-purple-day-threads. Or are there not enough people involved in the Sil-project or something like that to be put in the archive?

But I don't think he would say no to the sticky thread, can he?

That's really surprising. Well, maybe a stuck link thread would allow people to access them even after they fall into the abyss (I've actually come across many threads that are in the abyss when I've done searches), so perhaps by keeping the link up there, people will be able to get to them, even if the threads can't be seen when paging through the forum (right?).

Azalea, are you telling me that you can't read all threads from the beginning and up till today in this forum? It seems to me that I can.

Well, he did say we could have the sticky, and we can make it like an index with each chapter title and then the link to the chapter. He said that threads that aren't archived do not fall into the abyss. He said there is no abyss. I have to agree with Sheaana here, I think the project was unique and worthy of being in the archives, more than all the stupid joke threads. Oh well, what's a mooter to do?
