Does Tolkien ever mention any female orcs or dwarves?

There is Mention of female Dwarved in The peoples of Middle Earth, they seldom travelled abroad except in urgency. Gimli said once that it was hard for other races to tell the Male and Female dwarves apart because they both had beards from the day they were born. I've never heard of female orcs, but there is evidence of Father-son relationships between orcs.

There is one Dwarf-woman named, too, Dis, sister of Thorin (and mother to Fili and Kili). In The Silmarillion it is said that Orcs reproduced after the manner of Men, so there must have been women.

Who knows what orcs get up to? They were corrupted elves so presumably there were females as well, unless they were elves captured in battle, you don't hear a lot about female elf warriors.

It says on Dis "She is the only dwarf-woman named in these histories." (Which I construe also to relate to the Sil.) |

I don't know... I could stand a bearded female, as long a she was well groomed and sufficient in other respects.

I think we had a discussion about this a really long time ago, back when I was the Arwen around here....(ahem...NAME STEALER! )
I wasn't really smart then, so I didn't get most of it. I think there would have to be females, logically...but, then again, they were mentioned. Was Tolkien a bit of a sexist or was he just being true to the medevil-type mindset? |
