Gandalf how many of you care about lotr winning oscars?

so far the lotr films have six oscars in all, i deeply hope return of the king wins the best picture. i like musicals, but if another reaches a nomination...aghhhhhhhhhhhhh, i'll be upset not because i hate musicals, but because rotk didnt win. I liked chicago ( its a musical).

As long as the Lord of the Rings fans are entitled to their opinions about whether the movie deserved an award or not, it doesn't matter.

He said: "Get up, you tom-fool of a Took! Where, in the name of wonder, in all this ruin is Treebeard? I want him. Quick!"'

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows.
"Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.'

'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!'

I don't particularly care either. I've never watched any awards shows or anything like that.

Awards don't really matter much to me, for PJ's movies; Gollum is of course the exception, and I think he is eligible for a host of awards.

Of course I care!!! LOTR should win oscars! LOTR is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which isn't all that great anyway. Why not just rip the bread off in chunks and eat it with cheese and apples like an Alpine herdsman? Actually, I don't know what Alpine herdsman eat, but it seems to fit). Anyway, LOTR is the greatest thing since bread, period. Of course it deserves oscars.

Oscar is the funniest movie.

I don't really care that whether or not it wins awards (especially since I have a running theory that the Academy Awards is rigged ) as long as it is given the respect and recognition it so justly deserves (but would deserve more if Jackson hadn't corrupted Faramir and killed off Glorfindel...ah, but I'm rambling now....oh well. Up with LOTR! )

No, I do not care about awards for the movies. I only hope that the movies are well done and are good adaptations of JRRT LOTR.

I don't really care if Lord of the Rings wins oscars or not. I always got the impression that the recipients don't always win because they should but for other reasons like star popularity or because "they put their time in".

I agree with Rosie Gamgee and DtG, LotR should win oscars. Many people didn't think that the story couldn't be made into a movie, but it was. I think that at least it should be recognized as one of the best.

I don't care! Ha! What does it matter to me! But...the actors and others involved care, I guess. That's their problem though! Earn that $$$! (I mean really, these people make lots of money doing very fun stuff, part time..how lucky can you be!) Too bad teachers, policemen, factory workers, or waitresses (or my hardworking husband ) don't get to dress up in swanky clothes and diamonds, for a night on the town, just because they "worked"! (farty noise! ) I'll find something else to care about!

A film not made in Hollywood win an Oscar? Are you joking? Ok, occasionally they allow a non-Hollywood film to win, but they were never going to allow LoTR's to win. This is one of the biggest films ever made, and PJ choose to make it outside Tinsel Town and, to rub salt into their wounds, he actually made it in New Zealand, a place with no 'movie history' - they were never going to forgive him for that.

To answer the question, I don't care about the films winning Oscars.

I don't care all that much, but I'd like to see it win over something like The Hulk.

The craftsmanship, artistry and overwhelming dedication in bringing this literary masterpiece to the screen isn't enough for the hollywood sycophants. Peter Jackson isn't P.C. and beautiful so they refuse to honor him.
We should.

QUOTES:
“We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. What we were trying to do was to analyze what was important to Tolkien and to try to honor that. In a way, we were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves. “
PJ

“Obviously we're taking this incredible novel and we're adapting it into films, and I think the film is the important thing. “

If you don't care about the movies, why bother to post a thread on the Movie Forum?

Indeed.
It's just that there are movies out there that are nothing but a waste of money and time that get awards when something as wonderous and involved as our favorite theme does not.
