Extended Editions to be shown before ROTK

Check out this article.
Quote:
Starting the week of Dec. 5, the extended DVD cut of "Fellowship of the Ring" will be released in some 100 or so theaters in the U.S. and in 20 theaters in Canada.

Then, the week of Dec. 12, sequel "Two Towers" will unspool, just a month after having preemed on DVD, leading up to a worldwide Dec. 16 daylong marathon, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. Exhib guidelines call for a 3 p.m. showing of "Fellowship" followed by a 7 p.m. screening of "Two Towers" and then an 11 p.m. screening of "Return of the King," which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global release.
The complete The Lord of the Rings in one go... it's a dream come true!

well, let's see what are their plans for Europe...

I don't think I have a chance to see the trilogy in a go, but I envy you

It is interesting. The only problem I would have is the amount of time needed to view all films in the theatre in one sitting. ~9.5-10.5 hours. If sufficient breaks are between the films it may make it doable, but then it will extend the films to about 11-12 hours.

That is many hours and no matter how good the fims may be it is very difficult to put aside that many hours to watch a movie.

It is great for those that can devote the time and effort.

Wow, that sounds great! But it probably won't be at my theater.

EDIT: re: mithrandir's post -- yeah, I think I could handle it, but no one would go with me, besides the fact that starting it at 3PM would make it run until about 3AM, if they have the breaks as you suggest. *yawn* It would be better if they started it at 1PM.

You've got that right. I guess that's what you get for living in nowhere.

That would be awesome to see all three in a row in theaters. I plan to do it someday after Return of the King is released on video. It'll be a Lord of the Rings spooge-a-thon.

Just think of the crowds during intermission- all clamoring to get into the bathrooms .

Oh, I wish I could go, though. I wonder where they will be showing these?

I would love to see them in sequence in the theatre. Hey Ingeborg Moræus Hanssen, do you hear me? Doubt if I could persuade someone to come with me though.

I know, I wish I lived closer to some of you people, because I know then I'd have someone guaranteed that would be willing to do that kind of thing with me (or even just watch the movies more than once). Others of you, I'm glad I live a safe distance away -- Just kidding!

I am looking foward to it so much.
Living in Boston I bet there going to play it here but I bet the hardest thing will be getting tickets, because thousands are going to want to go. I am searching all the movieticket sites everyday until they come and I am buying a bunch for my friends and brother. I feel really bad for you people who can't go.

Better than rain or rippling brook,

I'd love to go to all 3 but after careful consideration, will let someone else have my spot. My 9 year old wants to go too and I know he'd never make it. We'll watch the first two at home, then go to the theater for RotK.
Just watched TT again -- my 7 yr old daughter likes it better than The Fellowship. It's so nice that Arwen is a dark haired elven princess, my daughter can identify with her. TT grows on one, improves on subsequent viewings.

This sounds awesome, but I'm afraid 14 hours in a movie theater would turn me into a living zombie.

I *am* planning to have a movie marathon with my friends once the extended version of RotK comes out. We'll all be off at college by then, but it will be worth the reunion!

I'll take DVDs over DVT any day!

Quote:
DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, usually occurring in the calf, thigh or pelvic region. The condition— which sometimes causes leg symptoms such as pain, swelling and discoloration-can be brought on by an extended period of immobility due to medical illness, injury, surgery or even lengthy travel.
Deep Vein Thrombosis awareness campaign

Maybe they should show the Jethro Tull anti-DVT ad between the movies.

Of course, I should have thought of the risk of DVTs.

But I suspect the risk is minimal as long as you get up and move around every couple of hours, as I think one would do in a theater.
The cool thing about the 14 hour marathon would be the camaraderie -- everybody in the theater would be feel like they were on the same Quest .. mission. . . thing. All starving together (or living on popcorn and Jordan almonds).

Maybe 14 hours is an exaggeration.

I agree... movies are all the better when watched as groups. Emotions seem to be magnified when shared with others. *And* joint suffering would make the starvation/mission/fear of blood clots thing a lot more bearable.

Trilogy Tuesday

This might have been discussed before, but apparently not recently, so...

http://www.lordoftherings.net/trilogy/index.html

The site says the tickets go on sale October 9, but that's all the information I can find. Does anyone know: are tickets bought through the site or the individual theater? How much are they?

At any rate, I'm there. I've already put in for time off at work.
