Choice of the 3 Goddesses and you.
If you were given the choice of Paris, Hera would give you power, Athena would make you wise, and Aphrodite offered you the love of the world's most beautiful person which would you choose?
I would probably go for Athena. In addition to being the goddess of wisdom, she also was the goddess of war and crafts.

I'd pick Athena. Power schmower. The world's most beautiful person could have an personality as unpleasant as their looks are aesthetically pleasing. I value wisdom most.

I'd assumed that their beauty was on the inside as well.
Wisdom? Pah! The empirical evidence of the current incumbent of the White House would tend to undermine the notion that power comes from wisdom. |

Who says those occupying the White House are wise?
Paris probably messed this decision up, didn't he? (Did Aphrodite give him the love of Helen?) I'd pick wisdom too. Partly because I value wisdom the most, and partly because I trust Athena to give me what I expect. She's my favourite of the Greek Pantheon.

I think wisdom has it. Yeah, if given a choice between power, wisdom, and the love of some 'beautiful person', I'd choose wisdom.

Perhaps the wisest thing would be not to choose at all. No matter what your choice would be, you'd get two angry goddesses on your back because you didn't pick their gifts.

YeS! Took the words out of my mouth! But if you said "to hell with that!" then you would have 3 angry godesses on you. But for that I would choose Hera, cause even Aphrodite had to give way to her. And Hera got your back, once an ally of hers, she dont abandon you easy.

Yes. Hera was very vengeful too so she's the one godess you definitely wouldn't want to piss off!

Before I got shot, I would have had to go with Athena, because of all the wisdom/war stuff, but now, definitely Aphrodite, because all I want to do is stay home and have sex.

I'd chose Power. Ultimate power can give you the tools to acquire wisdom and the love of the world's most beautiful person.

IIRC Zeus commanded Paris to choose. So, if you did not choose you would 3 goddesses's and a god's ire.

My quirky opinion is that Paris represents the failure of every man to appreciate the woman in his life in her full glory. Every woman is all three, and when we ppick one of the three aspects and call it the most beautiful, we are actually making a big mistake.
I'll elaborate: I love my wife because she is 1.) the one who stands beside me with sword and shield in any conflict, 2.) the one who won't let the house get messy, and 3.) the one who is so much fun to play with. If she were to ask me which aspect of her was most beautiful, I wouldn't know how to respond. I could never give up the other two for one aspect. That's crazy. Maybe when I was a teen I would have thought the fun part was best, but then I was a Dad and I really came to appreciate the home part, and the fun part was still fun, but not moreso. And that friend who stands beside me through thichk and thin? I would be lost without her! So how do I answer the triple goddess when she asks me this question? Honstly, of course. I love all three. All three are equal in beauty. I would rather die than have to choose. But I wouldn't die, because there was a fourth god there, and he is the one who knows I speak truly. He wouldn't let me die. Hermes, Thoth, the wizard. He'd know. I would get no gift from the goddesses, but I think, compared to Paris' fate, mine would be better. Last edited by Elfhelm : 06-16-2006 at 06:16 PM. |
