Candidates for U.S./'08?

USA Today released an article about early campaigning and listed all the possible candidates for each party.

If you've read the article, it'd be nice to hear some opinions on their choosing, how you think it was flawed or perfect etc...
actually even if you havent read it, post here.

my own finalists
Rep:

1. Bill Frist (Smart Surgeon. If he runs, I'll vote. Probably has too much of that "good-ole-southern-boy" image to be taken seriously after Bush's terms though.)

2.George Allen (lots of hype, probably too much...but he has the image).

3.John McCain (experience...people like him, he's mildly critical of Bush, which probably endears him to moderates).

Dem:

1. Clark...

2. Hil

3.Bill Richardson

What about Condoleeza Rice?

Don't kill me if I say this: I am simply stating my own personal opinion: I hope Hil C. doesn't run for President. My reason? I'm red. (Republican.) That's all I have to say. Forgive me if anyone is insulted for some odd reason.

Do you feel that Hilary Clinton would run for the Democrats and possibly win then Meriadoc? Or do you not like her for other reasons?

Interesting thread Hector.

There's also that minor hiccup with Tolkien not being American to consider. And that he probably wouldn't want to run.

Samwise for President!

Meriadoc is one of us who just know Hil is just after The Big Chair for glamorous reasons, she's just so insincere. It'd be diseaster.

I would have put Condi on my list if it looked like she was going to run, but chances are slim she will. But then again, Frist kept insisting he wouldn't and now he plans to.

Tolkien wouldn't run...but nevertheless! Tolkien for President!

Hmm...Hobbit, what state is Gov Warner from again? Massachusetts, Virginia?*scratches head*

Frist, probably has a good chance, he's fairly popular and hasn't had any scandals.

I had heard rumors that our Kansas senator Brownback might be considering running but I'm not sure how good his chances, simply because of lack of name recognition. a lot could change between now and 08 of course.

Hil C, doesn't have much of a chance, she's just too angry, and would only appeal to a small majority of people, and lets face it( please don't take this the wrong way and please don't start throwing knives at me), people are uncomfortable with the thought of a woman president. IMO Condi is one of the few who would be qualified, Hillary and more than a few dems, are gonna lose votes simply because they can't let go of their hatred for Bush.

Actually, this morning on NPR they were doing a story about Sam Brownback. He has a very good chance of bieng the lead. As much a chance as George Allen.

A case about Frists HCA stock was recently settled, otherwise I haven't heard about any scandals.

1. Clark... nah, seen as a military midget

2. Hil --= "a formidable candidate" according to "W" and she's already got 21 million in her warchest which she certainly doesn't need for the senate run coming up.

3.Bill Richardsonnah, recognition problems

who in particular?
Bill Richardson? He'd GET recognition because of his small recognition. GWB beat Anne Richardson in Texas, and she was a wit!

Well, I wouldn't really know I guess. I was only six or seven when that was going on.

I'd forgotten about Giuliani! He'd be pretty good to have run...though I might not agree with his stance on gay marriage.

That's funny! That reminds me, I did see her in the stands at the Super Bowl - I can't remember which team she was cheering for. Probably the Steelers.

Fair point.
It would be a shame to have your first female President be incincere. Look who we got stuck with for our first female Prime Minister - Kim Campbell! Wouldn't want you to have the same fate.

If I was American, I'd be voting for Ralph Nader! Woo! Unless the American Green Party's policies are as silly as the Canadian Green Party. Then not.

I think I'd vote for Nader too. I wasn't familiar with any of his policies until I did a report for a Current Events class last year on him, Kerry, and Bush. He was the only one who gave any definitive answers to questions about his stance, and if there was any area in America that he thought had to be changed, he had a solution. I haven't seen anyone else like him. It makes me mad that someone thinks the Dem v. Rep tradition so sacred that Nader can't even be invited to debates.

Was any mention made of Barack Obama? In last year's class, he was the only other guy who impressed me. He's a young, black, Democratic senator from Illinois who's been rapidly gaining respect in politics, and he doesn't feel bound by the general values of his party. Which is awesome. According to a Newsweek interwiew, he has no plans for the presidency in the near future, but the reporter seemed to be trying to talk him into running. I don't think the world is quite ready for him yet anyway.
