Holy cripes.
Although when I first saw it, the words "preproduction art" popped into my head...

That first image is a photo of a photo, which COULD explain why it has that pre-production art look to it. One question though: what's with that tan robe over Gandalf's white robe? The picture rocks except for that, however I wouldn't be surprised if there is some digital work done to Gandalf the white to give him that majestic glow in battle that the books describe.
Oh, and have I mentioned lately how gorgeous Cate Blanchett is as Galadriel? |

I actually think Blanchett more beautiful (and more like Galadriel in appearance) as herself. At least the picture of her character on the official site doesn't look nearly as good to my mind as her own.

He has a robe over his white one
because he kept the grey one on until...oh wait; he shed it after he talked to Suraman at Orthanc. I dunno what that is...
Cool pics, though! |

Yay! a pic of Shadowfax! that's the first I've seen, he's beautiful! He an Arabian you think? Almost reminds me of a Lipizzaner, but taller, and more thin around the face.

Really great pictures! I didn't expect to be seeing pictures from Helm's Deep until next year!

I don't know when your first post was Aerin, but as I have not yet -- welcome!
I'd like to point out that Gandalf did actually wear some sort of grey after his return from death. There are little references to his grey cloak or clothing here and there. I know there's one in the Houses of Healing in Book V. He at times wore some sort of 'over-coat', over the white, that is, which further veiled his inner flame.

It will be interesting to see the LOTR characters in real life, for me, they will change when I read the books. I don't know if the clothing will be true to the books. One can only hope.
Thanks for the welcome, Inoldonil!

Gandalf in Helm's Deep
That's rediculous. Gandalf wasn't at the Battle of Helm's Deep. He was busy negotiating with Fanghorn and arranging the burial of the Riders that had fallen at the river.

Gandalf at Helm's Deep
He showed up at the end, and did not do battle. Indeed, he couldn't, because they fell on their faces or fled, humans and orcs.
