It can be fun and it's certainly invigorating. I like the quick thinking involved plus the fact that you are doing it with a weapon makes the training even more intense. Then again, I like just about any sword arts in general.
Fencing has some serious strategy involved that I really enjoy. Obviously, if you were going for the kill with a fencing sabre it would be difficult because of how puny the sword is, so it's all about wearing down your opponent and striking for stuff like the sword arm first. That's not to say it would be impossible to win in one hit, but seeing a fencing match between two good fencers is fun and usually drawn out. It lets you really explore your opponent's motives and emotions while sparring.

I haven't ever actually done modern fencing (while I see how it can be fun, I generally find it rather dull in comparison to other sword/martial arts) but I'm in the historical fencing club at my college, which is brilliant fun. We have rapiers instead of sabre, foil or epee, and you're much less limited in the space you can move in. I really enjoy it. I also have friends who do modern fencing and enjoy it thouroughly--I'd definitely suggest trying to find a place and try it out. It's great.

I did foil. It was fun. I was useless at it though.
