Yay! its official
ok, I'm prolly tha last one to know this, but I dont care, I'm too damn happy!
Got this over at Revolutions "CNN reports that the DVD of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring will include a Director's Cut clocking in at 4.5 hours, which means an hour and a half more footage than was shown in theatres! My guess: more Rivendell, more Lorien, more Moria, and maybe even the story behind the stone trolls. With an hour and a half, they have a lot to play with. Other reports have indicated that the DVD will be released in August and will include a full-length trailer for The Two Towers, complete with dialog" These guys never lie.EVER.

Also be prepared for the fact it's not a straight 'director's cut' but simply the addition of discarded footage, making the DC actually possibly worse than the actual film.
Having begun to get some idea of the scenes that were cut for the cinema release of FotR, I doubt the added bits will add anything to the FILM. The only things really I ask for would be: A) More Balrog - man he is so cool it hurts! B) More Lothlorien - generally, and DEFINATELY the giving of the presents The rest can go swing, I'm happy enough with the film as it is. There's very few films I know of where the Director's cut is better than the original film. The only film I've seen where such an unequivocal decision comes is Bladerunner. Most DCs are simply self-indulgent rubbish. |

Don't worry too much about PJ's past.
He's simply done a variety of film genres which makes him more flexible. His first few films were like they were simply because he probably didn't have the resources to do other film types Gore - yes more of it. Nothing too gruesome, just more of the same (bearing in mind FotR shows decapitation etc.). For some reason you are allowed to show a certain number of gruesome things, but not more. With DVD this restriction wouldn't be in place. As for the damn Gandalf VS Saruman fight, I hope they re-edit it. THe bit with Gandalf spinning on the ground is utter ****. All they had to do was have him spinning in mid-air about his own center as the axis and it wouldn't have looked so damn stupid. RE: blood - well, Gandalf and Saruman both did take a bit of a pounding |

This is great... I wish they'd release it earlier, though, but a late DVD is SOoooo much better than no DVD

Yay is right! an hour and a half extra . . . * whistles happily* and it's due to be released in AUGUST??????!!!!! My dad had estimated that it would be released in october, so I am very very very happy to hear otherwise. Awesome . . .you've made my day . . .
Oh and Gerbil, I hope they re-edit the "damn gandalf vs saruman fight" as well . . .that was the worst part of the movie, in my humble opinion. |

I am going to have to talk my parents into a DVD player. My Mom wants to get one. AN hour and a HALF extra footage, I NEED to see the Fellowship getting the gifts. I wonder if they're gonna show bloopers in the DVD like the Hobbits feet falling off or something like that. That'd be so cool(Not to mention humourous)Thank you for telling us that Faraway.
I thought that Gandalf looked like a top in the Saruman vs Gandalf scene and so did my friend, but if you think about it Gandalf isn't one who would let his staff be taken away and then say "Alright I'll be up in my room STARVING and FREEZING to death if you want me"so I dont think that the Gandalf vs Saruman scene was totally out of proportion or bogus or anything. They just needed to have Gandalf on his feet for most of it and not on his head. Sam

I think, that that would had been better done as battle of wills. Like that both look each other straight in eyes. First, nothing happens, but then stuff around them start to move, and in the end both stand in middle of tornado still not moving an inch, until Gandalf blinks, and Saruman throws him in the roof. I would had liked that more... |

He walked alone and sorrowing. He peered between the hemlock-leaves And saw in wonder flowers of gold Upon her mantle and her sleeves, And her hair like shadow following. He sought her ever, wandering far Where leaves or years were thickly strewn, By light of moon and ray of star In frosty heavens shivering. Her mantle glinted in the moon. And on a hill-top high and far She danced, and at her feet was strewn A mist of silver quivering. |

Errk, Frodo fans abound everywhere!
Can't you just rent out another film with him in and imagine he's Frodo in it? Might make some of them more interesting as a result |
